    Yo.

I'll cut to the chase - I want my folks (49 and 47) to start taking care of themselves, but I cannot talk sense into them no matter what.

Their diet is alright at best - average irish family I'd say. i don't live at home the past few years, but it hasn't changed a bit.

They don't do any exercise at all. While not fat, both could do with losing a bit of weight.

I'm just sick of feeling like I'm talking to a wall... any ideas how to break through to them that they're being lazy sh1tes, or just leave them to it?

(I do realise how angry this post sounds!)

They are adults, if they watch television, they know they are supposed to eat well and exercise regularly. If they choose not to do so, you can't force them.

I know how you feel. My mother drinks too much, sneaks cigarettes, eats total junk and drives to her next door neighbours. But while it drives me nuts, there's very little I can say, as she is basically healthy, and any change has to be her decision.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps give them a present of membership of a health club. The sort of place that has saunas and massage and a pool, not just a gym with weights and treadmills. There's a chance that if they start going, even if they just plan to paddle and steam, they might get encouraged to do a class or two at their level.
