How does multi room setup work.

Does the second cable come up from dish to where the 2nd tv is. I live in a duplex house and would this be outside standard installation since tv is on the 3rd floor. The dish is in the middle floor?

The installer might need to get onto the roof to drill a hole to get into the room.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭brian ireland

i had sky a few years ago. The dish is possibly dead. What will they charge me to get it back again? Sorry I know you don't work for sky but you seem to have an interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭steveon

Second cable indeed comes from the dish to the room you require the box installed to. However to avail of multiroom you also need to have a landline connection to each box permenantly.

Does anyone have more information on this package "whole home"? What is it after 12 months (double I assume) and does it essential mean as many multiroom boxes as you want (to fill an octo LNB)?

Patrick, it's free from most independent agents at the moment.

Steveon - "Offers continuing to run:" ? None of those offers are running at the moment. Sky+ and Sky+ Multi are free at the moment and HD is 29 as is HD Multi. That pricing is through the roof compared to what's on at the moment. Is that from Official Sky mailing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭von Smallhausen

Got nothing official here at the moment. Could get it 2moro if not Wednesday. Then we will see wether this is true or not.

Anyway for existing customers the €100 installation on the plus box is way too high! only for an LNB and another bit of cable..come on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭steveon

This was an official price list emailed to use directly from Sky...Firstly Multiroom is €7.37 per sub for new customers only for first 12 months and €14.95 there after.

Once again very little in way of price changes for existing customers which I feel is harsh but I dont make the rules unfortunetly.

Why is €100 crazy? Time it takes to order equipment, drive out, cost of tools, ladders, insurance, fuel, phonecall to sky to re-pair the card to new box....

I remember when I started in the satellite game over 18 years ago when customer bought the equipment themselves at a cost then of over £400..

I personally agree that €100 would be expensive if the customer had say sky plus already and then upgraded to Sky Hd... but €100 is cheap especially when callouts for other trades start at €40 to €50 an hr just for the callout let alone do any work....

Then explain why its €50 for new customers and the same for existing customers going for multiroom which will require even more cable and longer to do.

I was asking in the context of a stand alone job for which 100 euro is not unreasonable. In skys case I do agree though that it should be lower for subscribers who of course pay monthly fees on an ongoing basis.

It would be nice to see some good deals for their loyal long-term customers :( , I'd like to go for the HD myself but I'm not willing to pay the full monthly price for it as I just don't think it's worth the money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Gabhan

€14.75 for a bunch of channels we already have. Which means we are still paying for the non-HD versions. This is just sillyness. If Sky want HD customers, they should scrap the additional monthly fee and charge a little more for the box. I mean, at €14.75, they are making €180 per year - every year - just for the HD box - with NO stations - just HD equivalents of existing ones. So after three years we have stumped up €540 + €49 (for the box). That's almost €600 - for no channels????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

Well to be honest, it's not like Sky hold a gun to anyones head to take the HD sub. Personally I think it's well worth it for the quality of sound and picture.

It's the extremity of pricing on their special offers from one month to the other that does my head. The people on the kiosks and lads out on the field have huge difficulty explaining to a cutomer why all of a sudden the charges for installations have increased.

And also, at the above prices, when the engineers go out and try to charge for extra work, roof work, attic work, octos, extra cable, phone lines etc etc etc as far as the customer is concerned the install fee is already paid ( paid to Sky - cos the install fee does not go into the installers pocket, it goes to Sky and installers / install companies are paid a set commission for each install regardless of how big or small a job turns out to be )

Anyway, they just make it more difficult for their own independents sometimes.

Whole homes is up to eight boxes. At the moment it's on offer for a sub of €15. After the twelve months are up, it goes back up to €15 per box for each extra box.

Sky rang yesterday offering me their Movies and Sport pack for half price for the next 3 months, said I didn't want it. I then asked the girl if I was to upgrade to a HD box could she give me the €14.75 HD package at half price for the next 3 months, she said no

So much for me being a loyal customer of 11 years

Are those offers on their site because I can't see them anywhere. Looking to upgrade to Sky+. To get it for €49 you have to go into a store instead of ringing them up yeah?

I'm already with Sky so wouldn't get the €75. €99 for Sky+ box plus €100 for installation is expensive imo so to get the Sky+ box for €49 instead would be nice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

The Sky+ box is back down to 24.50 again. I wish they'd settle on a price and leave it, this up down price thing is doing my head.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,163 ✭✭✭✭Liam Byrne

As stated by others, if they charged for the box and didn't charge monthly for the HD options, then I'd consider it, but paying extra for "higher-quality" low-quality content and repeats is definitely not worth it.

Also, the fact that the Sky+ only works while you have a Sky sub is further reason to ditch Sky, buy a decent PVR and watch the free channels only.

Whats the best offer at the mo for new customers? (best as in cheapest way to get sky) :P

    No phoneline here though..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Wizard007

Well on the Kiosks at the moment the best offer is a HD & Sky+ for €98.
HD on it's own - €49 or HD with a free Standard - €49 (Multi-room). Sky+ is back up to €74.50 but Sky+ with a Standard is €24.50 (Multi-room). HD Sub is still €14.75 per month. Special offer on Multi-room still stands - one extra box is half price per month at €7.50 or up to eight rooms for €15 for first twelve months.

The Kiosks match all special offers Sky Direct have.

    I hope this helps.

I'm buying a HD tv in about two months so if I get standard definition sky+ can I upgrade to HD in the middle of my contract or will I have to keep SD sky+ for 12 months?

Yes you can upgrade in the middle of your contract. But when you upgrade to skyhd you will have to keep the hd pack for 12 months

You should quote them on that. Installation is free with Sky+ M/R

Only if going for Multi-room. If you don't have a land line you can have any single box install. There would be a fee though of €37.50 for manual activation and pairing of the card.

Just a quick update where I am we are giving a free plus box for new customers with €50 install. Only available for this week.:D

I have Sky+ at the moment but want Sky in another room. Does anyone know what price is it is to add sky to another room in the house?

    15 euroes per month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭von Smallhausen

For an extra standard box its €69 for the box and an extra €14.75 per month on top of your bill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭Dummy

I still have my old box from when I upgraded to Sky+. Would I still be charged for the box if I had the box?

In fact I even have the coax running from the dish to the room that I want the Sky in.

Then connect it up and connect both to the same phone line, ring Sky and tell them a private contractor set it up for you and to send you out a multiroom card, don't let them tell you an engineer WILL have to call out, say you've already paid a guy to do the work and you won't pay again.

When the card arrives insert in box and ring and get it authorised or just authorise it through the Installer Menu.
