hey guys i have two questions today. numero uno, can someone tell me or post a vid of the correct power clean technique( starting strenght routine one) as i dont have the book yet but im doing the workout.

numero dos (two) A guy in my gym (yea yea i know) noticed i was squatting and deadlifting barefoot and he reccomended through his "years of lifting heavy" that i should use asics or similar running shoes for squatting and deadlifting because of the arch support and heal elevation.

now i personally think i know that the guy was talking bull**** but he got me thinking.

thanks for any help guys :D

Seems like she's extending way too early and completely mistiming the second pull as well. She's up on her toes just as the bar passes her knees.

I'm not a weightlifter, but her form looks poor.

Anyone who's been "lifting heavy for years" should know heels on the DL are bad. They're especially bad when they're soft spongy heals like you find on running shoes. That being said, I've front squatted 135kg in Asics before and they they've held up fine. So to that end, unless you're squatting over that, Asics are probably ok to squat in. For a guy who's obviously been lifting heavy for years, I'm surprised he'd do it himself.

I wouldn't even dream of deadlifting in them tho. Disaster imo.

Jesus that gym in the vid looks excellent and i love the video also - cheers

I always dl barefoot but use runners for front squats (this week 120kg) and they were fine - i know a good pair of lifting shoes are better but i do some plyos right after so they are not an option for me.

You'll almost certainly 'jump' as part of the explosive part of the lift, as for the stamping of the feet it depends on who you listen to - some say it stiffens the muscles, some say the over-exaggeration encourages power.

The weight is too light for her, early extension would be expected - there's an argument that you should be able to control the lift even with lighter weights but it's in practice that's not always the case.

It's not perfect, but it's a long way off poor - there's a lack of good instrcutional videos out there, if you're just beginning this is a decent start.

On the shoe front, from what i've read and been told on her, you want flat stiff soled shoes. Converse Chuck Taylors (Allstars) are the recommended shoe from what i've seen. its got the sole covered, and gives more support for ankles than running shoes as well.

I actually just got myself a pair during the week for the gym. The seemed to make a bit of difference on the squat alright. however, i had been using flat soled pumas before that, so it wasn't massive. However, i used to wear asics, but when i switched from asics to pumas the difference was huge. i felt the weight a lot more with the puma, and my balance was completely thrown off because i was used to the raised heel, but got used to it fairly quick.

well i tried power cleans today, i dont think i did to bad, i didnt really see the need to jump as such, or go down when the weight is in the front squat position, but the weight didnt feel light, ima keep at it, ill get back to u all

The "jump" is the explosive part of the move, and by slightly spreading your feet you re-balance when you catch the bar. Without it you're really just doing muscle ups. And no, you shouldn't be going down, hence the "Power" clean and not full clean.
