Haye v Klitschko

Saw this on RING a few mins ago.....

The biggest heavyweight fight possible is all but a done deal.

Wladimir Klitschko, THE RING’s No. 1-rated heavyweight, and No. 10 David Haye have agreed in principle to fight on June 20, almost certainly in Germany.

Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Haye in the U.S., said the on-again-off-again deal will finally be completed “at any time now.”

“We’re just waiting for the lawyers to finalize it,” Schaefer said.

Haye confirmed the news on a television show in England. According to the Times of London’s Web site, he said: "All the stumbling blocks are over, everything has been agreed. All this is about now is Klitschko's people sending me the contract, I can sign it and send it back."

Klitschko (52-3, 46 knockouts) and his brother, Vitali Klitschko, are widely considered the best heavyweights in the world. Wladimir Klitschko holds the IBF and WBO belts and has won 11 consecutive fights.

Haye (22-1, 21 KOs) isn’t the top challenger – he’s No. 2 WBO, No. 11 IBF -- but the former cruiserweight titleholder has a great deal power, has a huge following in the UK and is loaded with charisma.

“I think the heavyweight division needs this fight, it needs to be shaken up,” Schaefer said. “And I think David Haye as the new heavyweight champion of the world will bring a lot of charisma to the sport. He’ll be the next generation of heavyweight champions.

“He’s going to have a huge impact on the sport.”

Four sites within Germany reportedly are being considered: Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Mannheim.

Haye to do a Sanders on Wlad!

Really, Wlad has to be the favourite, but Haye has a punchers
chance here. Wlad's chin aint as sturdy as Vitali's!

Klitschko will definately be the favourite but my hard earned money will be going on Haye! My prediction: Haye KO rd 5!!!!:D

Very hard one to call, will Haye be too good on the night or will he go into a shell when he feels the power of Wlad? It has to be said though that Wlad has to step it up a notch to win also. He cant fight this one like Ibragimov

So your tipping them both to win Dean?:p

I dont think it will be as clear cut as people think for Klitschko, I actually think and HOPE Haye wins.

i think vlad is going to get steamrolled

One of these fighters will look amazing while the other shall be destroyed, which will end up in each situation remains to be seen but there's no way this is going to be a to and fro fight. When one lands big the other will be done.

    I can't pick a winner.

Does anybody know where I would go about getting tickets for this fight?? Would they be on ticket master? I'm sure they'll sell out pretty damn soon! want to be there.

Two heavy hitters. Two china chins...it can only end in one way :D

Yeah I cant really decide between the 2 of them! Im getting splinters from this fence Im sitting on! Klitschko has a lot of power behind his punches but then so does Haye. It could really go either way. But Im leaning slightly more towards Haye on this one.;)

:D:D:D:D, I know what ya mean Dean, its nip and tuck between the 2 but im hoping its Haye, just to mix things up a bit.

Yeah if Haye can catch him napping early in the fight and land a couple of solid punches he could do some serious damage and hopefully knock him out. Sanders showed us it can be done!!!

i dont see how it could be close, haye only has a punchers chance, 1 good hit by wlad and he's out..

I don't like Haye, but I hope he wins so we have one less Klitschko in the heavyweight division. Bring back the good old days of heavyweight boxing.

For the sake of boxing, I hope the 'best' man wins and if that's Wlad, so be
it. I will root for Haye, but if he's not up to it, then that's tough.

Haye is considerably younger and if he wants to be taken as a serious
threat o the heavyweight scene, now is the time to deliver.

It's been quite a while since two heavies will have come into
the ring in shape. I expect both these to be looking very
    conditioned and lean

You don't think one good shot from Haye would render the same result ?,

Both have the power to finish the other with one big shot.
Haye has the speed advantage of hand, foot and reflexes.
Wlad however is a lot bigger and not slow himself.

But would you really be that surprised if Wlad got Sanders'ed again ?

Both of them only have a punchers chance, it's not like either is going to win on points.

The way i see it if wlad lands clean its game over-haye could ko wlad but i think wlad could also take haye,s punches even if there landed well, so really its a punchers chance, where wlad only needs 1 good punch, and he will land 1, prob 1st round too.

I reckon a Haye win could be on the cards as I certainly view Wladimir as the weaker of the two brothers. If it was Vitali in there I reckon Haye would be well beaten to be honest and wouldnt have much of a chance.

You have a lot more confidence in Wlad's chin than most, I think if Haye landed a decent right hand that'd be it. Whether Wlad could pull himself off the floor once or twice afterwards would be immaterial, he's got a questionable chin and his powers of recovery are poor. His gameplan is built around no one being able to find that chin.

Wlad hasn't taken hard clean shots since the 1st Brewster fight and even still he was floored 3 times by Sam Peter from nothing punches.

Thankfully for him he's been able to utilise his size and skill to avoid being hit on the chin while still getting the job done. However Haye will be the quickest Heavyweight Wladamir has ever faced. We saw what the quick hands and powerful shots of Corrie Sanders did to him and how he struggled in his last fight against a fighter with quick hands(Ibragimov) and that was even though Ibragimov was so much smaller a not really a puncher.
He won clearly but wouldn't engage him at all.

Haye is an inch taller than Ibragimov and has a bigger reach, he's also got quicker hands and more punching power. On the negative side he has a worse chin. Anyway Wladamir can't fight Haye like he did Sultan, he's got to go out there and put Haye away before Haye puts him away.

Of course if Wlad lands it'll be the same result his way, but this is just a case of who lands the first quality blow will probably win the fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,358 ✭✭✭✭walshb

And Sanders's hardly landed the biggest of shots. It was accumulation and speed that did it. Haye will be throwing crisper and heavier punches and this may be enough. If Corrie can do it when Wlad was better, then Haye can do it when Wlad is lesser

I'd love to see Haye win this to shake things up and generate genuine interest in the heavyweight division. If Haye were to win, would he then go after Vitali?? Would be nice to see him attempt to topple the Klitschko domination.

Quick question...do cruiserweights historically have much success when stepping up to heavyweight?? I'm not an expert by any means so don't slate me pls..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,358 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Well, one of the greatest ever was Holyfield; but before Cruiser was invented, the weight
limit before heavy was 175 lbs and no LH champ before Michael Spinks did the trick and
    captured the heavyweight title.

Holyfield the only one who really did well at heavyweight coming
    from the Cruisers as champion!

a version of the heavy title.

Haye is a big man and an athletic man and a heavy hitter; but can he take
    a real wallop?

In a sentence; only Holyfield really did well at heavyweight coming
    from the Cruisers as champion!

Well Bob Fitzsimmons did come up from Middleweight to win the World Heavyweight title and went down in weight to win the Light-Heavyweight title later on against our own George Gardner.

Roy Jones won the WBA title against John Ruiz after coming up from Light-Heavyweight but of course that was after the creation of the Cruiserweight division and Lennox Lewis was actually Heavyweight champion.

James Toney did start his career at Middleweight where he won the IBF title and he won the same belt at Super-Middleweight and Cruiserweight. Then he moved up to Heavyweight and beat WBA champion John Ruiz, only later to be exposed as a drugs cheat and had the title stripped and given back to Ruiz with the fight becoming a NC, so in effect Toney never won it.

Toney then later tested for drugs when winning a split decision over former Light-Heavyweight Danny Batchelder, and was only given a one year ban !
Still a great sentence than for his previous test where he wasn't even banned after it. The win was still given to Toney for the fight because the other guy tested positive too.......
Amazing that a fighter can test positive twice for steroids, showing that he is a potential repeat offender and be given such a slap on the wrist. It's almost as if people don't care he cheats. That's a little off topic anyway.

The reason Wladamir is rated above Vitali is because in the last 4 years Vitali has beaten Sam Peter and Juan Carlos Gomez.

In the last 4 years Wladamir has beaten Eliseo Castillo, Sam Peter, Chris Byrd, Calvin Brock, Ray Austin, Lamon Brewster, Sultan Ibragimov, Tony Thompson and Hasim Rahman.

Yes Vitali may be more formidable, but he's going to have to get more active and beat some top 10 fighters to get above his brother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

If it was Vitali then i think it would be a very tough fight fo Haye but Wlad is definately an easier option. I think Haye has far to much speed for him and unless wlad nails him i could see haye systematically destroying him over a few rounds before knocking him out. People going on about haye having a glass chin? He was only stopped once and that was due to problems making the weight as much as anything else. He's gotten up off the floor to win a couple of times now. Wlad on the other hand has been knocked spark out.

I think Haye is a breath of fresh air. He moves like a middleweight, doesnt spend the whole fight spoiling and he's a great knockout artist. I get bored watching the Klits and their robot jabs and all the hugging they do. Gimme a young hungry banger with a flawed chin any day of the week.

id love to see Haye do it also. Hes a cocky arrogant git and id like to smack him myself (then run away with the quickness), but he has balls and has so far backed up his cockiness. The heavyweight division needs a good shaking up and a boxer to excite. If Haye could unify the division then that would be some achievement and then maybe we would get a new breed of heavyweight coming hrough trying to knock him off his perch. Heavyweights with speed and technique - not just lumbering lumps like the Klits

    Got to disagree !!!
Even if Klitscko destroys Haye , he will never look amazing.

The 2 most boring fighters on the planet are the K-O brothers. I always watch them , but they are terrible to see as a spectacle.

Won't Haye be much smaller here ?

Both men have suspect chins, Haye can knock wlad out for sure, its just a matter of hitting cleanly. Wlad tends to spoil fighter oppurtunities like this, however this negative fighting is sure to give haye the motivation to go after it. If he beats wlad then vitali is next for sure. anyone see his fight with gomez?

Well if we were talking just about champions then no, but he asked about success which can be interpretative so I thought I'd put in some of the other men who reached the upper level of the Heavyweight division having started at a lower weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,358 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Fair enough; but it does go to show how the division has declined. Spinks was a monster at 175 and only him to that date won the heavy title coming from LH as
    champ.

Fast Forward and you have Jones and Toney (steroids) competing at heavy and
doing very well with both winning versions of the title; watered down at that!

How did they ever beat that John Ruiz?

You know what if Haye and Rogan win their next fights I can see that happenin. Surely that would make tons of money?!? and Haye seems to work with Warren if the fight is right. Now that would be unbelievable. Id say if Wlad wins though he will be more concerned with his mandatories.

I reckon Haye has a decent chance against the younger Klitchko as he is so rigid but the Older Klitchko will knock him silly for sure.

Haye has all the confidence in the world. Never been hit hard tho ?

Vlad punches like a jackhammer. Bit of a plodder however.

It will not go to points.

I would say a game performance by Haye early on, but a midway stoppage for Vlad.

More money lost in the bookies...........
