The other day, I was reading the labels of all the brands in the local Tesco, sad I know :o

    I didn't find one with 100% peanuts.
Tesco own brand has 88% and some other fillers, god know what they were!

Kelkin was 97.7%, it's the most expensive brand down there but the crunchy version is just gorgeous!

Wouldn't 100% peanuts, just be peanuts?

    I'd say so

The cheaper brands have stuff like dextrose and palm oil in them.
Now a miniscule percentage doesn't matter at all realy, it just shows why they are cheaper.

It is ridiculous the things I eat peanut butter with. Ommlette with peanut butter on brown bread been one of my finer examples! I have also mixed it in with tuna and pasta when I had no sauce in the house.

no guys, ye gotta seek out meridian peanut butter, 100% peanuts, when you open it you sometimes have to mix the oil back into it, as builds up at the top,

Mmmm on homemade brown bread, with honey or jam and a big mug of sweet tea:D

Nicest ever is rice cakes with peanut butter with a mashed banana on top! So yum, same texture as peanut butter and jam without all the sugar!!

Just liquidised peanuts, you can make your own this way, I have.

Cashew peanut butter is expensive, cheaper to get cashews in asian shops, some even sell "broken cashews" cheaper.

Meridian is in Holland & barret shops, though last time I had to ask for it and it was out back, not on the shelf.

I eat way to many peanuts, very calorific. The other day to bulk it out I just mixed in peanut butter with dry porridge oat flakes, it was actually pretty nice! I imagine you could bake them to make cookies.

    Peanut butter rocks ;-)

My favourite is to blend up Meridian/good quality peanut butter, a scoop of chocolate flavoured whey and some skim milk/cream. Mmmmh...

Or, toasted brown bread (the lifeforce nutty one, peanut butter and sliced bananas. Yum.

Was in H&B today and managed to get myself a large tub of meridian, it was the only one on the shelf.

Have to say, it looks like someone took a dump in a plastic tub, but it's tasty, a little too dry I guess but that's just the way things go when you opt for au natural. Picked up some cashews as well which are really tasty!

That was my first time in H&B, didn't realise they had such a wide variety of nuts etc, will have to take another trip soon.

The 1kg tub? It's great, used to be €5.20 but it's gone up to about €6.70 or so. Still, it's much better value than buying the smaller tubs.

Cashew, almond and hazelnut butters are also delicious - cashew & almond in particular, they're almost sweet to taste.

Yeah I thought that about the cashews alright, they almost had a fruity taste to them, it was weird, but nice!

Assuming you stirred it up and got all the oil mixed through and its still too dry, you could pick up some peanut oil in the supermarket and add it to the peanut butter until its the right consistency, that's all that's in it after all.

i have found that the meridian peanut butter is very inconsistant in its texture, i have had some pots which u have to force the knife into, and some where it is perfectly mixed (both crunchy).

as said before, the only problem is that it tastes soooo good and has soo many calories:pac: close to 600 per 100 grams i think:eek:

in relation to cashews, i always buy the cashew pieces, sooo much cheaper, i was looking at two bags yesterday, one of full cashews 9 euro 50cent, the same weight bag of pieces 3 euro 46cent. so it makes sense to get the pieces.

cashews are quite a high carb nut though, i think close to 30grams carbs per 100grams, but they are the nicest nut everrrrrrrr.

i also piced up some ground almond, its in a powder form, good value, have seen it in dunnes as well, perfect to add a little to your cereral, smoothees, pancakes etc

i'd also use the meridian peanut butter in a satay or work some honey and chilli and lemon juice in and marinade chicken in it then bung in the oven..... drool....

true true, the 1kg tub price gone mad :(

other butters are nice too but in protein/fat ratio contest peanut butter is the winner! so, I'll stick with it :)

    peanut butter rulezzzz!!! :D:D

    Where do you get these?

The cheapest salted normal peanuts I have seen is tesco at 40c for 200g. That is only €2 per kilo. Raw cashews are usually around €10-12 per kilo in asian shops, cashew peanut butter is usually far more expensive per kilo than that.

It was in the evergreen shop, i might get some tomorrow, or tuesday for sure and i will let you know the price.

a smaller bag was something like 170grams and cost less than 2 euro, though i will make sure next time im in and pass the info on.

just a quick one on the 100% peanut butter, where the oil seperates.

I know the fats are good, but what is the nutrional value like in terms of removing some of the oils? Stronger protein content and less fat for those of us who have trouble keeping fat levels down (i looooooovee oily fish)

I'm on a quest for new foods, recently got into eating asparagus and tuna. So next up is this meridian peanut butter everyone talks about. Do people go for the crunchy or smooth version?
