As Garmin are doing the "maps update for life of the machine" for £99 (EU) and £110 (EU/North America) it seems worthwhile getting the most maps on the machine when you first buy it.

Ebuyer are dong the nuvi 775t for £262 + £13 delivery to Ireland. Same as machine as the 765t but with North America and Canada as well as EU maps

So for €413 you get a high-end machine all the maps you'll ever need.
Is it a good deal? It looks good but it seems a lot of money to pay up-front.

Judging by how quickly satnav units become "discontinued",
the Garmin offer of free updates, could be for as little as 12 months. :(

It's a marketing, sorry, "morkeshing" gimmick.

The offer is for the servicable life of the machine; it wouldn't matter if it was discontinued.

    define serviceable life
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_life
Garmin would need to say what they have calculated the value to be.
