    Quick question.

Being lifting the weights and now want to include some cardio.

Ideally i would like to jump staright into a bit of HIIT but my fitness levels are not what they should be.

Im going to do the couch to 5km to get levels up and have a goal.

    Question is..

I dont want to lose the muscle ive gained but ive heard that doing cardio first thing on an empty stomach increases fat burn (dont know if this is true with non HIIT cario) should i take a protein shake before hitting the road or nothing?

    Thanks

I run 4 days a week so fair bit of cardio there.

I keep my muscle mass up by doing weights 3 days a week.
and trying to eat about 30% of my calories in protein

    seams to work for me

No protein shake before- only after- your body fuel source is low in the mornings so it dips into its reserves.
IF you eat very very well and do a good weights program your body will not touch your muscles as an alternate fuel source instead using body fat! Best of luck!

Yeah that's the main thing. I do up to 50-60km mountain bike rides, I usually have pasta + steamed veges before I go, and bananas + water while riding. When you get back and relax, that's the perfect time to get some protein out. You'll need a lot of fuel x.gif
