So important I felt that it needed its own thread.

First off all let me start off by saying that Bear McCreary is a frakin' geniuses. I loved ever piece of music. My two favourite songs are Admiral and Commander (Exodus parts 1 and 2) and Storming New Caprica (Exodus 2). I still get chills listening to Storming New Caprica and at the part where the Galactica jumps it the atmosphere and falls to the planet while lunching the Vipers. Best, part, ever!

Wikipedia has some good content on the music. Worth a read:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Battlestar_Galactica_(reimagining)

Looking forward to getting season 4 OST.

The music is brilliant. I love his version of all along the watchtower. I remember when the four of the final five were being revealed and that song was being used,I was just thinking how brilliant the music was and how much it added to that whole reveal.

I also love the Opera House music. Its a brilliant soundtrack.

+ 1 on the opera house, I think the opera section in that late episode of season one where Six takes Baltar into the now intact opera house to see the cradle is probably my favorite ever section of the show; I think it's why i'm slightly miffed at what the grand future relating to the child came to be :p , that scene had me enthralled from then on as to the grand future of Baltar.

The knockoff Celtic style stuff was a bit annoying mind you.

i quite liked that, i think part of the reason i enjoyed the music so much is that it was varied from what seemed like every culture. Am glad the celtic bit was included in the list of extraordinary music.

    i like
    adama falls
    batlestar sonatica

both very good ones from season 3.
have all the other season sound tracks and looking forward to season 4's. I liked piece in 401

Season 2 is my outright favourite. There is a whole sequence of brilliance going on there from Pegasus to Prelude to War. The Lords of Kobol version they used on the Pegasus epidoes was an absolute travesity compared to the album version.

Something Dark is coming is king, it was randomly watching that unbelievable opening ten minutes to LDYB Pt1 that I made up my mind to byt the season 2 OST.

Season 3 has grown on me bit by bit as time goes on though. Obvious choices are the crunchy gutairs from All along the Watchtower or the heroism of Kats Sacrifice. Songs like Violence and Variations and Somebody to trust have really started to grow on me recently (prob cos if Daybreak Part 1). Heeding the Call by the way, what a track, they used it well in the show but I personally would have preferred the main part of the song to REALLY kick in once the final four had entered the room and the camera moving about the room highlighting their various reactions (Tigh shouting denials violently, Chief in quite shock, Anders in fear and Tory on the ground crying btw!)

Season one hasn't grown on me though. Maybe it is beacuse alot of the song are redone in 2 and 3 and I listened to them first. Wander My Friends is good though.

    Nope.
The Irish music was only ever used in variations of the Adama family theme, and it was always effective when it was used. A definite highlight.

Same here but very odley there seems to be a different season 1 track in the US than here in the EU and i like the other one but i cant find where to buy it.

I dont really listen to much music so i dont know are sites that let you listen to songs illigal? there is one i went to (am i allowed to say it started with dee because that gives away **** all if you google it and you would have to know the site to know what im talking about?) it had a complete album of bsg music that was different to the 3 i already have.

Well, that particular piece sounded somewhat familiar (could be wrong of course) - must get my hands on it. OST can't come soon enough.

The majority of the music in the finale end seemed to me to be an excellent reworking of all the major pieces of the various scores throughout the miniseries + 4 seasons interwoven together:

    BSG Theme
    Opera House
    Passacaglia
    Adama Family
    Adama + Roslin
    Lee + Kara
    Colonial Theme
    + lots others

    Magnificent.

What about the tiny bit of music as the fleet goes sunwards...
    From the original series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭Scráib

My personal favourite is 'Reuniting' which they played in season one (or two?) when Galacitca rejoined the fleet, and then at the end of 'The last Frakking' special' when the cast were essentially saying their goodbyes to the fans.

That piece of music is just beautiful. I even have it on my iPod!

It is 'One Year Later' from the 2nd season OST.;)

    Nice one.

So thats the track that's playing when the camera zooms in on Baltar's head (right after he's elected) and then zooms out a year later?

    Super piece of music.

Yeah, I loved that piece in the finale episode. Thrilled when I was listening to the other soundtracks the otherday and realised it had actually been used before in the Season 2 soundtrack.

I could listen to all the soundtracks all day long. Best TV series music ever!!

Great stuff a 2-disc set for the season 4 OST.

It's mad that Bear converted the musical cues of the Watchtower theme into actual Galactica-verse coordinates. Super nerdy :)

I've downloaded an MP3 of the Bear McCreary version of Passacaglia, its probably my favourite piece of symphonic music ever ............. I'm not normally a fan of that type of arrangement, but something about this one just gets to me.

Are the soundtracks only avail online? Haven't seen them in HMV, and iTunes has no Bear McCreary stuff.

Currently sans credit card so online ordering not an option.

Am in the states next week so may look there.

You should get a cc to be honest.

Never seen them in bricks and mortar shops here and got 1-3 online fairly cheap.

A two disc season four soundtrack?
A box set of material from Razor and The Plan and off cuts that didn't fit on the other soundtracks?
And Caprica pilot soundtrack pretty much next month to add to that?

    Best news all week.

The finale was laden with so many little flourishes it does derseve a disc of it's own to show them off and let us hear them in their fullness.

It's also worth noting how good it is that they brought McCreary back to compose the music on Caprica because I'm sure it will mean some manner of musical continuity between the shows, which is no bad thing considering how coherant and genuninely good Battlestar's music has been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,952 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Just saw this, would love to go.

Bear McCreary's music written for Battlestar Galactica is going to be performed in Germany (in the Hagen Theater from 7 March onwards for 13 weeks).
It has been transformed into a 36 minute long piece of orchestral music and will be accompanied by ballet.

As it is orchestral music, music that never could be performed before in Bear's live concerts (like the last ones in the Roxy in LA) can be performed now.

It will be one of the three featured pieces in the evenings programme called "Three Faces". Tickets can be purchased at: http://www.theater.hagen.de/index.php?id=14&st=129

The mini series has its own soundtrack cd, composed by Richard Gibbs.

Noticed the theme tune for the original series at a few points in the last episode. As well as a few original Cylons. Nice touch.

can anyone tell me the music used in the end of exodus part 1 , when Adama is giving the speech to the crew before the end of the ep?

From what he said he's leaning towards, the Razor/The Plan cues will be on the prospective boxset of unreleased BSG music, not a seperate album.

I was mistaken - Iwas taking that from McCreary's earlier comments on one of his blog posts, not the newer update.

All and all, I don't care about abot McCreary doubling up as I'm more interesting in all of those releases than most other prospective music releases.

It's 40euro on Cdwow, that's crazy money for a CD. The soundtrack is more expensive than the DVD!

I won't be buying that at release, like I was planning to do.

Its only 17 dollars from Amazon.com but havent't checked what it will come to with tax and shipping.

Yeah, it's a bit crap alright. I pre-ordered on Amazon.com anyway, $26 incl expedited shipping. Doesn't ship till the 28th though, and then it'll be about 10 days for delivery.

If anyone wants to get their hands on the songs and get them on to their ipod then I suggest downloading "Free Studio Manager". Has a nice download from youtube and convert to mp3 feature.

Fairly sure thats illegal. Your basically downloading copyright material.

Soundtrack is brilliant, in case anyone is wondering.
