I'm looking to start the buying the collection but cannot find the Blu-Ray format on Play.com or Amazon.co.uk. Ehich is funny as I could have sworn I had seen it up there before.

Anyone know where I can buy the European region Blu-Ray format? I presume only season 1-3 and maybe season 4.0 are out in Blu-Ray?

Did you not get a little suspicious when you couldn't find it anywhere? I mean did the possibility that it doesn't exist not enter your mind?

Anyway it doesn't, I believe they are bringout season one later in the year though. I may trade in the DVDs for it. Only time I will ever update something I already own though.

I am also sceptical at how the grainy nature of the show will transfer to BR.

    No!

    TY for your reply.

I hope they are realistic with the pricing when they do come out but I think you are looking at around 2 or 3 years before they are all out on BR.

Assuming a staggered release of course which is a bit of a normailty.

The complete blueray set is either coming out the same day as Caprica or The Plan, can't remember which. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Have you got a link for that?

Extensive google searhes and all I could get was that the Bluray site said they were told season one was out in 2009.

season one is the best thing i have seen in HD, the gunfire raiders and vipers looks amazing. i cant wait to get the rest of the season in HD.

I did some extensive googling and all I came up wth was this:

    http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Battlestar-Galactica-The-Complete-Series/11368

Hopefully, the 'Complete Series' is all 4 seasons in one Blu-Ray box, which would be great. But for the sake of milking the money machine that we sci-fi fans are, are highly doubt it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I hope thats true Omega, I clicked the link through to find the Galactica blog and it says the source is a poster called Jack who has a friend in Universal. A little tenuous.

If they release the whole thing in one go I will snap it up.

looking forward to picking it up in 1080P and Tru HD myself
Here is something from the Digital Bits:
    http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa165.html#frost

Next, consider this Rumor Mill worthy, but our industry sources are confirming a bit of exciting news that our friends over at Galactica Sitrep have posted today... specifically that Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series is currently set to be released by Universal on Blu-ray Disc on 7/28. Also coming to DVD soon is Season 4.5 and a Season 4.0/Season 4.5/Caprica pilot 3-pack. It's likely these new DVDs will street on 4/21, which is when the already announced Caprica pilot DVD is set to hit stores. We expect the official announcement in the next few weeks, so be sure to check back for all the details.

Yeah I'll be buying a bluray player when this comes out (rumoured to be July 28th two days after my birthday, SCORE!)

Hopefully when they say complete series they mean The Mini-Series, Seasons 1-4, Razor, The Plan and The Resistance, Razor Flashbacks and Face of the Enemy webisodes.

I know that's a lot to ask for, but I'd be willing to pay whatever it would it cost, if not then I'll wait for some sort of definitive collection.

I hope this is true. 28th of July 2009 all seasons on Blu Ray but this won't be cheap.

Yeah the rumour has been recirculated on various sites since the series ended.

The DVD versions are going for pretty cheap so hopefully this will be available somewhere for under 100e.

Looks pretty firm that the US release date will be 28/7 as per the Caprica DVD.

The Caprica pilot is worth a look BTW, could be an interesting series!

Hopefully the BSG Blu-Ray set will be region free. See attached picture for Blu-Ray packaging.

Christ, could have done without a Cylon figurine in order to keep the price down.

ditto. its actually the only series or film so far that i have thought about buying a blueray player for. might be the excuse i'm lookin for to justify getting a ps3 too :pac: deffo going to buy at least the dvd box set. i feel i owe that to Ronald D. Moore (Blessed be His Name)

watching season 4.5 in HD was an eye opener for me, though postage from the cousins took longer than usual and i had to convert them for the 360.

the ones that are up for download are not propper HD - if that was an eye opener basg in full 1080 i havent seen anything that good, ive seen a few things in bluray and hddvd and none of them have anything on bsg season 1 in full HD

i picked up firefly on bluray and its very good but bsg in 1080 is unique

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭RaoulDukeHST

I watched the last season in HD downloads but that was just in 1080P and via xbox. Blu-Ray should be fantastic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

i downloaded the 720p files and watched them though an upscaler in 1080i and it didnt have anything on the actual HD discs ive seen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭RaoulDukeHST

actually, I also watched in 720P uprezed

They are 'proper' HD - Sky1 HD and SciFi HD showed season four in 720p, which by every standard devised is 'HD'. 720p (or form switched to 1080i, it makes little difference) being the native HD output of a vast majority of HDTVs that people have now.

The HD DVD release of Battlestar Galactica Season One was in 1080p, a higher resolution still that can only be seen in it's full resolution on 1080p HDTVs. Most people who watched it probably watched it in 1080i, not 1080p.

Televised HD is not as high quaility as Blu Ray or HD DVD even at 720p or 1080i, but it still is 'proper' HD.

Yes, it is unlikely we will see full consumer 1080P broadcasts any time soon. Though I have heard that in Japan they are hoping to trial 4K2K broadcasts next year.

Sorry by propper HD i did mean 1080p because the things ive seen in that are true eye candy.

Still BSG in 1080i or 720 still looks very good compared to the 350mb standard defination but the 1080p is well above the 720's

I cant wait to see 2 things in 1080p

    1. Season 2's opener called scattered when the galactica returns to its orginal jump point to plot a jump and they have the network up. Anyway i love the close up of the flak guns on the galactica as the vipers attack the heavy raider.

    2. Season 3's Exodus Part II - Galactica jumping into the athmosphere - the fire and the pagasus scene

Actually resurrection ship part II as well :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

you must all have gigantic tellies as ye wont notice a difference between 720p and "proper" hd 1080p on anything less than a 37", even then ye'd be hard pressed.
saying that i'm almost talking myself out of buying bluray again. proper bit rate 720p would do me grand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

i picked up a 42 inch philips 1080 plasma for 450+vat and the first thing i watched - BSG - pegasus and ressurection ship

Just the power to assume it will be expensive? :p

well i didnt win on the bidding for the full size figure at the bsg auction - my bid of 400 was well outmatched by about 10k.....

so i well want a figure even if it is small. id also love a cylon raider

Eh...yeah. I have the amazing power to assume the release of the entire series of Battlestar Galactica on Blu-Ray with some fancy Centurion figurine will be expensive (i.e. more than 100e).

I am just special that way.

    Too true.:pac:

Aside from all that noodler, i'll been very surprised if they don't release a complete set without the action figure. It wouldn't make sense. I presume it'' be the same as the LOTR's extended edition releases where you could buy it with a figure if you chose to do so.

Ok noodler does have the gift of future sight. Thats a toal rip. Even with the discount.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

Ouch, was the figurine really necessary at that cost?

Think I'll wait until they all come out individually, hopefully that way it will cost less :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I just saw the figurine beside a box in a photo that is supossed to have been after the Caprica DVD.

    I would pay 100e-no more.

250 dollars is excessive in the extreme considering what the DVDs are going for these days.

It was always going to happen though-I am not sure why some people thought it wouldn't be expensive.

EDIT: If its 250 dollars with the discount then it is 350 dollars without it.

Christ! How much will it be in the Rip-Off Republic?! Well there goes the chances of me buying it as soon as it is released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭robby^5

I knew it would be expensive, but was thinking it would come in at $200 as the average for most shows seems to be $50 per season and we're only getting 4.

Its not yet known if the Blu-Ray will be region free or not..
Most releases are now. I think I will wait until it is released to find that out before purchasing..

hddvd is multi regional - i got it from us site but i had to buy my firefly bluray from a uk site - region 2

if the us one is released first - which i assume it will be because there is no mention of it on amazon.co.uk ill have to buy the US bluray one and then either make my playstation region 1 or else borrow my mates ps3 when we watch it - but for my own future watchings im going to have to spend another 160 on a us bluray player

I am unsure what you are saying there as a whole but suffice to say MOST Blu-Rays are region free. There is a website around that you can check to confirm whether or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭RaoulDukeHST

    Yes, here is the site:
    http://bluray.liesinc.net/

The problem is that they don't test for region encoding until the set is released. Pre-Ordering is a little risky, not knowing

I think that goes without saying, obviously hold off on the purchase until you find out.

Really saddened by the price, guessing it will be aroundthe 150-200e mark here.

I don't think it will, which is completely disappointing. Theres no mention of it yet. I was just thinking about the price of it again and its such a joke, when the complete series of stargate sg1 was released it was 200 dollars for 10 seasons. (now im not gonna get into comparing the quality of sg1 to bsg, lets face it there is non) But still i think the complete series shouldnt be over 150 euro.

Stargate was an excellent show. Always thought they did the stand alone episodes best.

I believe the Plan is out in Sept, the box set out in July so there is your answer if I am not mistaken.

Fair point but if you check prices on two movies one bluray or hd dvd and the other std DVD the HD one will cost more. It will be interesting to see what the Bluray SG1 sells for - we are due a DVD with 2 - 2 parters from Stargate atlantis. Season 1 ep 1 and Season 5 the last ep - out i the summer only 4 episodes and 3 hours of TV.

They have plans to release complete SG1 on bluray and same with SGA.
We will find out then i guess.

Ah and the plan is out in november not september?

    *Sigh*

Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on July 28 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment with 13 hours of extras, three unaired extended episodes of the series finale, never-before-seen deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes and commentary and podcast interviews with executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick.

Just season 4.5 :( oh wait all the extras have put a smile on my face :)

but still i have 1 in HD i have to see season 2 and the rest a big HD BSG session

EDIT: Also wouldnt mind seeing the nebula scene from end of 3 and beginning of 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

How do you get 13 hours of Extras on there?

Is there going to be twice as many discs?

    Nope.

Commentaries count as 42 minutes of special features, and they'll probably just through Moore's podcasts onto it, so you'll have 42 x 11.

They're only audio tracks so they take up very little space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

im looking forward to seeing the final episode all 3 parts unaired and extended.

I wonder will they include the alternate ending where
Galactica actually lands on earth and the final scene its some news article about archeologists finding "something" - galactica remains in big deep underground under some mountain or something to that effect
im glad they went with what they did - more continuity like Moore said
