I'm joining a gym next week and would like to start a weights program. I've never done any lifting before. I'm 5' 11'' just over 14 stone, my main goal is to build some muscle loose fat and to get down to 12 and a half stone. I have started eating healthy and have started cycling so doing cardio 2/3 days per week.

I've read so much stuff here about different weights programs I'm baffled as to where to start. Can anyone recommend a program or give an tips for a beginner? Would you recommend that I go with a weights program recommended by a gym instructor?

    Any info would be appreciated.

This. It's just an easy to follow barbell strength training programme for beginners that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

I started out, almost a year ago, doing starting strength. It gave me good results.I did it for about 4/5 months before switching to a split routine.I'd definitely recommend starting stength to anyone starting off.
