Maybe mistaken, but are you also lodging in D15 (seem to recall from location thread).
If so, I can guide you. Just arrange a time to meet in the Phoenix Pk.

Only 11 days left before the Kippure date-with-acute-myocardial-infarction and you're doing centuries? That's junk miles innit.

    So you coming?

I should be on for this. It is a bit early though so if I'm late go on and let me know what direction you head in, I will try to catch up.

    So you coming?

To the TT - almost certainly. To the spin tomorrow, awaiting domestic approval. I've been meaning to do an 80km loop from D15 to Sally Gap, but my legs are a bit tired after commuter racing all this week (pathetic excuse I know).

If you want to make the century from D15 to Sally Gap, then descend toward Blessington, at Kilbride head toward Brittas and home via Saggart (and Lucan). 99.4k door to door for me.

Cool, would half 8 at the Ashtown (North) Gate give enough time to get over?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

8.15 at either Ashtown gate or Castleknock gate would be easier.
But yep. I will pm you my number and we can meet in the morning at the Ashtown Gate.

I regularly go out around your way. There are loads of boardsies in D15, so you need never be short of company :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

What kind of route are you planning on doing?

Heading out tonight but have great notions of getting up quite early and busting out my 100km ride for March, getting back around lunch, kip, watch rugby, then onto the Bernard Dunne night to round off what will hopefully be a successful day all round.

If I do manage to haul my hungover ass onto a bike at an early hour, I was planning on going for a reasonably flat 100km route so that I won't be totally wrecked by the time the beer hits in the evening. And as the boards.ie spins are generally anything but flat, I may give this one a miss and hold off till next week but would be interested in hearing what your plans are first.

What kind of route are you planning on doing?

It sort of depends on what everyone wants/can do. General plan is Dundrum to Kippure to Sally Gap.

Can head via Eniskerry for example, but if it was up to me :) I would head up via the Blue Light pub onto Glencullen onto stocking lane/military road via Pineforest Road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Watching my brother's match tomorrow at 11am, so just gonna head to Enniskerry with my sister at 9am. If you pass us on route (we will be going slow, its her second spin) I will be on my felt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

@Frank- I certainly have to be back for lunch tomorrow myself (cycling out to Meath in the afternoon.) Tomorrow morning will probably be a bit on the hilly side, will give you a good appetite for lunch and your dinner and beers tomorrow at least :) May be a bit under 100km, maybe not, but a lot more interesting than a flat ride.

i'll do my best to be there, but don;t wait if i don't turn up, i'm off on a mischief causing adventure tonight...........

What sort of pace will you all be doing? Could manage it at around 20km/hr, may get dropped, but have a 50 miler on Sun. with the Vets.

At a rough guess these things generally go around Wicklow at the 20-25 mark. Come along, we will wait at the top of the hills (if necessary :))

Bit early for me due to other commitments in the morning unfortunately but I'll be heading out slightly later.

Will be leaving Rathmichael about 10.30 heading for the sally gap if anyone fancies a later spin.

    Hey Aidan,

I sent you a pm about the spin if you get this in time.

    Andrew

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭zzzzzzzz

Sorry Andy - only saw this now.

Short enough spin for me - went up the road to the kippure mast for the first time - passed a guy in a boards jersey descending while i was on my way up (Rok_On maybe?) as well as a load of lads with tiernan's jerseys on. Also met Donal and Sudat (?? I have no idea if that's right) at the bottom.

Visibility was pretty bad at the top - couldn't see the mast!

Hill wasn't as steep as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was tough! But I think I've been up a hill in howth that's steeper. You go through some housing estate to get to it from what I remember. I'd be really suprised if that was what a 20% gradient is...

You must have just missed us, a load of lads with Tiernan's jerseys arrived just as we were heading off from there.

Some photos. Unfortunately most of them turned out a bit crap, new camera, put it onto manual mode going up Sally Gap and it appears that ISO was set to 1600 so they are crazy noisy.

Back, having a Magnus Backtead coffee :)

    103km for me, Avg 22 ...

Was a good spin, but the new change on my bike, saddle, cleats, handlebars position really killed my back and right knee ...

Lumen, niceonetom and I met chegedaragh and ROK ON at the top of Sallygap on our was back and we cycled back home all together.

ROK ON, Thanks for the alternative way home that will likely become my new favourite way home.

We had a bit of a scare on one of the back roads towards kilbride (?) Some lunatic in a UK reg facing us car accelerated and went straight at us. I had the scare of my life ... that b4stard, was really going for it. Tom who was the 1st in line was quick enough to react and avoided being hit. It's amazing how Flippin' mindless people are ... this guys wanted to play bowling with us. We weren't able to remember the reg number ...

Hi. Great spin. 106km at 22.5km.

Met CheGuedara for 1st time - sorry we were late - some tube related problems. Made it to Dundrum at 9.25am.

Anyway good to meet with Caroline, Lumen and Tom at Sally Gap.

We were very lucky descending. That FU*KIN ASSHOLE tried to kill Tom.
    IDIOT.

    We were lucky.

Made it to Kippure for 1st time. Tough, very tough, but I expected that it would be worse. Very cold and no visibility. We met a load of Tiernans lads descending as we were climbing. Aidan - it was Che in the Boards gear, I was behind.
IMO, the climb overlooking the Lugalla Estate is the toughest climb in Wicklow (that I have done). Much tougher than Kippure.
But in saying that Kippure is tougher than the rest.

I had this happen to me (not today), descending Stocking Lane by the Hellfire Club, doing around 70km/h. An oncoming white van driver thinks it would be just hilarious to swerve at me. These sort of people are sociopathic, they could kill someone with these antics but they just don't care.

Another 78km day today - met Tom (?) Andy (?) and then Aidan at the bottom of Kippure. Nice to meet you guys! Sudha is the fellah's name Aidan.

Shocking about the fellah driving towards you guys. Same thing happened on Tuesday for me actually on the Enniskerry Road, a ferrari on the other side of the road decided to skip ahead of everyone and I had to swerve.

On the plus side, I did see an unmarked car having a talk to some fellah in a car on the road over Lough Dan. So hopefully it's related to your guy.

Great day. Somewhere near 100km for me, not really sure due to finger trouble on the Garmin.

Hills are getting much less unpleasant.

Need to work on my route timing; I'm grounded.

Thanks to ROK_ON for guiding us home very nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

By chance I had my first Boards spin today.:D
Apologies for not introducing myself at the car park at first, but I was in two minds of going on up a bit further or going home. Glad I tagged along. Couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people. Was nice to put faces to the names.
The company certainly got me around cause that spin was slightly beyond my limits atm. Legs went on that climb into Enniskerry. Thanks to Jimm and emty for coffee and cake.;)

Hope Jimm got home ok after we parted.

Shocking to hear what happened to the others but glad to hear you got home ok.

Thanks to Jimm and emty for coffee and cake.;)

Ye had cake. Why is there never cake when I head out.
    I like cake.:D
In future can people organising boards spins specify whether or not cake will be provided.

never made it out of bed on time to meet up with you guys, I went out over sally gap via hell fire and the feather beds to laragh and then went back over again from the roundwood side...

and then we won the grand slam.
    Me in heaven.

that driving at Tom is really really shocking

The worst part is that there is nothing we could have done different, apart from maybe cycling single file in the gutter and hoping not to draw any attention from the psychos.
