Focus RS for me. I've always been a fan of fast fords. If the ST is anything to go by, the RS is an animal!

is the GTI / R32 ommitted for a reason?

    Id have your car!!! :D
I like the RS but think its too much of a "boy racer" appearance too many wings mods. The VW would have to come in white and i would like it but i don't like VW's (go on shoot me!) This would be, and the r32, be the only VW's id buy!

Casue the Scirocco is faster! It is a cracker the R32 but I thought that it would be unfair to put more than 1 car per manufacter

I voted for the RS. The new one is fairly ground breaking as far as reports go. I'm not a Ford fan, so it says a lot that I'm going for it!
The Honda I think missed out on a cracker by maybe skimping on the current Type R, not enough of an improvement. The 130i would be very entertaining to drive, but looks worse than horrible and would be probably over priced. S3 also overpriced for what it is. Mazda 3 would be decent, Scirocco would be OK too, Megane would be good, don't like the Astra, and the Subaru actually doesn't deserve to be sitting there with zero votes!! Wouldn't be my first choice but certainly not my last!
    So Focus for me!

A neighbour of mine has an 86 one. It looks perfect, I've got a mk2 Golf in the garden and a lad up the road has a corrado. It's like classic VAG town around here

Sirocco all the way. One or two floating around where I look and look a million times better in the skin/metal.

I'm not all that suprised that the Impreza didnt get a vote. One ugly car!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,444 ✭✭✭fletch

Probably Audi S3 if I had my sensible head on.
    Otherwise I'd go for a Megane R26R

Civic isn't enough of an improvement on the last gen (it's a backward step by all accounts)
    130i is fugly
Focus RS is a bit chavvy and in your face
Mazda 3MPS is too boring looking (although a hoot to drive)
Astra VXR is a bit long in the tooth now and again chavvy
Impreza STI, don't like the looks or image.
Scirocco - not convinced by the looks....yet

Because its a sexy bundle of wheels on sex? :pac:

I was filling the car up on monday, and there was a sprint blue 07 one parked a few feet away. I purposely took about 5 mins longer to fill it up so that I could glare at it. I love them.

Drivers Republic did a hot-hatch shootout. You might be surprised at their conclusions regarding the Civic Type R

I'd pick the R32...wait a minute.... Anyway I'm not sure about leaving it out just because there is another VW there. I would think it should be in there given you can get it in 4 door and it has a 6 cylinder engine unlike the Sirocco.

Of the rest it would have to be the RS - from what I have read it is supposed to be a fantastic motor

If i put in the R32 then I'd have to put in the GTI as well, so I just opted for the fastest hot hatch of each make. I deliberately left out the supermini's but I think I should have put the Mini Cooper S Works in as it could more than hold its own with the other cars! (sorry Ned78!)

You do have to remember that the UK motoring press are pathologically fond of Fords, ever since Ford used to make cars in the UK. They all lapped up and reprinted the Ford bull about having eliminated torque steer in the new RS before it was released, and then in their first tests admitted that actually, no, Ford haven't eliminated torque steer.

But they were still repeating the nonsense about how reducing weight by 100 kg by using front wheel drive was a clever decision, even though any idiot can see that it was just a cost saving measure.

So, I'd be very careful about believing the continuing hype about the RS over the proven GTI (and its sister Scirocco,) if I was spending my own money.

Focus RS for me. No other hot hatch has 300 usable fwd ponies. I also looks mean and moody.

Would you believe I actually had written in that I was allowing for the bias in the UK press, but then I figured someone would be pedantic and state that Ford was not a UK make - I do take your point on board. My first choice would be the R32 if it were there. I'd also like the S3 but no auto option there. I'd like to read a bit about the new GTI when it is available but it seems as if it will be a little slow in the new hot hatch playgroud of 0-60 in 6 seconds ish. I do also agree that it is not all about straight line speed but I do think that VW should up the power of the GTI a little from the expected 205 -210 bhp region that is rumoured. Maybe there is an R36 on the way tho'

had a 130i M Sport for a while, an animal of a thing with 265 RWD, one of the best cars i've ever driven. Astra OPC is too torque steer along with MPS (its nuts, too hard and dangerous to drive fast). havent driven an R32, wouldnt be up for anything with too much power through the front, once you get the first big scare you dont want to go back there! like the look of the RS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

    Wow, really difficult choice!
It's a close tie between the Focus and the Sirocco, but sirocco wins.. They're so awesome.
Wouldn't mind a 1 series bimmer or S3 either. Really like the idea of a hot hatch, although coupes are nicer IMO.
My all time favourite has to be the Saab 9-3 hatchback viggen though.

    Lancer Ralliart for me.

    mitsprts3hi7.jpg

Its equipped with a downgraded version of the EVO X’s 2.0l Turbo charged engine, with 240 bhp and 343 Nm of torque and comes with a twin clutch gearbox and full-time 4WD with active differentials. One remap and its a hatchback EVO X FQ300

Fair enough the Focus RS is getting great reviews and its suppose to be brilliant - but why is it the car thats getting a awful lot of the result without anybody here (i will stand corrected) having driven it yet? Is it a case of wanting what you can't yet have?
My vote would have gone to a GTI, but the S3 gets it instead :D

Until the RS focus was tested , the megane won every hot hatch test I've read.

The 135 is the most powerful in the list and the only one with RWD. Oh wait - it's not in the list  ;)

I've never been a Ford fan, but the new Focus RS looks fantastic. Even in orange :D

And the 300bhp convinced me to vote for it.

No, I've driven it, albeit only in left hand drive in France, and I can say that they have done a pretty amazing job in eliminating torque steer. Floor it hard and you'll know that you are driving a front wheel drive car but its only a minor tug on the wheel for a second, then it sorts itself out. I've driven loads of pretty mundane diesels with worse torque steer.

That said, I would reserve final final judgement until I drive a right hooker on a typical Irish back road, but the signs are very good indeed. Handling is pin sharp and feedback on the limit is second to none, I'd put money on it to out-perform most supercars on a proper twisty road, the torque is amazing - you could leave it in third gear and drive it as an automatic, and the noise is fabulous. Very impressed indeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭UhOh

hope they do something with the suspension aswell, regular OPC has 60 bhp less & torque steers like a beeyotch
