A new TV being launched soon in the UK by LG will have a built in Freesat tuner and also an MPEG4 DTT tuner, so it may be of interest to those who would like to have it all in one unit rather than several different STB's under their tellys!

Will be available in sizes 32" and up - More info here: http://uk.lge.com/products/model/detail/lcdtv_32lf7700.jhtml#

Excellent news. I see there is 2 in the range Paddy. A 42" and 32", both out on 1 April !. Similar spec to the Panasonic Viera Freesat range.

    LG 47LF7700 £1139
    LG 32LF7700 £699

As i posted in your thread in the satellite forum. There seems to be a doubt over this launch:

Update: Now scheduled for launch in May 09.

This is good news for sure. Hopefully we'll see more models like this pretty soon. Hopefully from manufacturers like Sony and Samsung

Speakin of LG, had a look at their UK site where theyve listed the entire 2009 model line up. Good news is that every series, even the most basic has an mpeg4 DTT tuner. Theyre certainly blowing their own trumpet too. One of the top models has a "200hz trumotion" feature. Many models are 100hz too. Nearly all 32" models are 1080p and theyre quoting dynamic contrast ratios of up to 100000:1. What really takes the biscuit, though IMO, is this. A 22" 1080p!! Would be grand if they were marketing it as a monitor but theyre not! Theres a 26" version of that too.

Should point out that the freesat model, the 7700 seems to be based on last years 7000 series, the one that was going cheap at Chrimbo. they stripped it of bluetooth though, and upped the Contrast from 50k to 80k for good measure.

Thinking of getting rid of UPC and getting broadband from another company, so Freesat and Irish DTT would now suit me.

I have a satellite and a STB but want to get other STBs.

Can anyone direct me to a STB with both FreeSat and MPEG4 DTT? Is there such a thing?

Well, you can get STB's that will allow you to watch FTA satellite and MPEG4 DTT but you won't get any of the benefits of the Freesat platform such as the EPG or interactive services. There is a sticky thread HERE listing set top boxes that have both DSAT and DTT in one which might be of help. I do believe one or two of those STB's might have been hacked to allow access to the Freesat EPG, but I could be wrong. Best to ask in that thread as the more technically minded members for those STB's post on there and can answer any questions you have.
