Kayaking For Beginners

Hey everyone, appreciate some help ;)

Myself and a friend are hoping to learn to kayak this summer. Both very much beginners, can swim if this is necessary. WE know very little about the sport but want to give it a go. I've a couple of questions for all experts!

Where to start? We are both in Cork city, would be interested in somewhere localish, Kinsale direction would be good or west/east cork. Are there courses out there for basic beginners? What can we expect from them? What equipment do you need for these, wetsuits provided? Is it better to learn in a sit-on or -in kayak? Whats the difference between this and canoeing? Is there a kayak season in Ireland? How expensive are courses/lessons?

Sorry for all the questions...all replies very welcome! ;)
