Motivation problem

    Hi

Hope someone can give some advice. I'm a serial starter and not much further of a variety of fitness/weight loss programmes and I just never get past the first couple of weeks.
I'm 31, male, about 5,11 and 16 stone so I know I'm overweight . My diet goes from good to ridiculously bad. I'm not a quitter in life - I've fought hard for relationships, work and other things, I can just never stick to fitness plans or routines.
I've been wondering if I should invest in some sessions with a personal trainer to get me a decent routine with the limitations I have in place. My time and money are short - I spend time travelling to work (from Drogheda to Dublin) each day and I have a nine mongth old daughter (with another on the way) and two dogs. This means no spare cash and little time to be honest.
I go through fits and starts of things - I've achieved goals before - several 10k and one half marathon but I haven't really stuck at fitnes since I stopped team soccer when I left England a few years ago (have looked for a team over here but I'm brutal - my english team was worse but good fun!)

Suppose this is a moan and I'm probably looking for a magic wand. Just wondering if anyone has any motivation ideas that have lasted. I need to get fit and be healthy for my kids but I always just have the big ideas and nothing more comes of it

    Any suggestions gratefully received

    cheers

    Jim

Could one of the main reasons be your not motivated because your not seeing good results?

very possibly - and probably a reason why I last a couple of weeks and 'give up'
hence some of the time wondering I'm I'm doing it right...

A thread such as this should keep anyone motivated.

Some amazing transformations that should appeal to anyone looking to get in shape.

What is it exactly your trying to achieve? Is it very clear to yourself?

I want to lose weight as I'm aware it's unhealthy. I want to do it at low cost and relatively low time (which is maybe where the issue is) as it has to fit in with some other priorities (daughter/family, work and dogs).

I also want to look better as lets face it I'd like to give some of my mates some grief back who have given me grief for a number of years!

haha that sentence actually made me laugh.I'm not sure if you intended it to be funny but it was lol.

If thats all you want to do and you want to do it in less time then i suggest just changing a few small things about your diet.

What type of food do you dislike?Do you dislike veg, chicken,
    tuna,eggs,porrige,peanuts,fruit ?

didn't mean it to be funny really?

as well as lose weight want to look better (lose the gut and the 'moobs'), feel better and generally not sweat when walking up two flights of stairs

the list of foods I don't like are below...
    Cottage Cheese
    Whipped Cream
    Baileys

This is half the problem - i LOVE food (and I enjoy cooking too)

make a bet with said mates that you'll manage to run x amount of miles and lift x amount of weight by a certain date.
you'll have the motivation of proving these mates wrong and also a tangible date to aim for.

other idea, get a gym buddy.
create a timetable for your week and workout at the same times each week, make it something that is part of your routine.

place the timetable and goal dates on your fridge for all to see, that way you'll be less inclined to miss a session as everyone will know.

McNulty - I organise a 5 a side every monday night in Drogheda. PM me if you're interested.

Other than that, consistency is the main thing. If you do something small consistently, you will get results. do it in the morning or you won't do it! get it over with!
