How often do you visit your parents?

I live in Dublin and my parents live about an hour away. Like most of us I have a busy life but I do try to get down to see them as much as possible, usually every 2 weeks, maybe 3 if I have a lot on, but they are always moaning I never visit them enough... I have friend who's parents live 10 minutes away from them and they don't even see them as much as I do.

I realise most of you probably still live with yours :pac:, but for those who don't, how often do you see them and do you get as much hassle as I do?

    Live at home now.

But when I was in Galway I used to go home every 2-3 weeks...

Once a week if they are lucky or when we want a big dinner.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 243 ✭✭HarryPalmer

Mine live on the way home from work, so I tend to nip in most working days even if just for a couple of minutes. In any case, I'll always make time to be there for dinner on Saturday. Not like they're always going to be around.

I knew a guy doing an apprenticeship with CIE and they sent him to Dublin for 3 months to DIT doing some training. He came home after one week saying that he cannot survive unless he sees his mother every single day.

He now around 10 doors away from her. Her daughter has a house around 20mtrs away, her son a house 15mtrs away.

Another son 45yrs old lives with her.

Her other daughter(my GF) lives an astonishinly 25kms away with me. Oh, Im no fool!!!

Depends on when the bog roll runs out in my house. My mother buys the softest stuff ever so 'd always nip over to rob a roll or 4.

It used to be once every couple of weeks but now that I have a baby I get up to see them once or twice a week cos I don't want my daughter making strange with her grandparents. I do the same with the in laws!

pretty much every day, my mam looks after my daughter while I work, but if I don't see her - weekends etc - I'll ring her instead. Rarely go a day without speaking to one of them.

Talk to my mam about once a day sometimes more and I get home of they come up here roughly every 2 weeks. I'm the only one living away, by which I mean 45 minutes drive. So I make as big an effort as I can cause I have nephews neices etc and to be honest I love my big loud family.

Sad to see that so many are mentioning only one parent!
Is it death, separation/divorce, they're still together but you only visit one.

Both of mine have fecked off to Cyprus so once a year if lucky, unfortunately for the missus both have passed away.

Outside of them babysitting, try and get over about once a fortnight minimum. They don't drive, so would also give them lifts if needed.

I really feel for people that hate living with their parents. It's easily solved though: move out and quit bumming off them.

jimmy neo. Is that really you.

I live with me parents still. Bloody hell, 26 two days ago and still living at home. Planning on moving down to wexford to me missus soon. Will probably be back up every second day to see them , see how things go but hopefully see them as much as possible.

When I lived in Dublin I saw them once or twice a week and talked to one of them every day.

Now I live abroad I saw them at Christmas for two weeks and I don't know when the next time I'll see them is. Probably this time next year. It's the main reason I could never live here permanently - I just couldn't be this far from my family forever. :(

We skype every Sunday though and I send a few emails to each of them during the week.

About once a month, but I hate visiting a graveyard. Before that it used to be every day, as I lived beside them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

Ring dad at least twice a day, see them every week except when we are on hols...they are well over an hour away by car and I dont drive yet but would see them more if I could. We also spend every second Christmas with them. I see my brother less often even though he works near by as his gf is in Cork :( My husband sees his parents a few times in the year, they live abroad some of the year so is more akward to see them - every second Christmas with them though...

Not seen mine in 4 years now. It's a bitch living 15000 miles away

I live in Cavan and my parents live in Dublin. I drive down every Sunday for dinner with them. Some weekends I stay with them for the whole weekend (if I am going out with friends or have weekend college lectures).
