how can u make your calves thinner? i've lost a fair bit of weight recently but i despise my chunky "collops", all my jeans are falling off me on the belly and the bum and thighs but tight on my calves.... i walk and exercise a fair bit. My bf says they'll eventually atrophy and get smaller....... is there ANY truth to this?

well yeah thats the bloody problem....
i CAN pinch the inch (of fat) when the muscle is relaxed.... It just seems unfair that they should be so BIG. its gross. (im not just being a girl here, i DO need to lose a lot more weight). its just frustrating that its going from everywhere BUT my calves.

I saw the thread title and I was coming straight in to say sets of 50 weighted reps but then I read the thread :(

Here's your answer. Not being flippant, its just a little foolish and self defeating to expect your calves to be the size you want them to be if you still have a lot of fat to lose. If you get down to the weight you want to be at and still have a problem with your calves then perhaps you should be asking the first question, but until then just concentrate on losing fat.

I've a similar problem, my calves are mahoosive. I have a real problem with finding boots to fit, even skiboots are a nightmare. The only way is to lose fat, and it seems for me they are the last place to shrink when I've lost weight!

go for fewer reps, 10 to 12 with a heavier weight, do 4 sets of standing dumbbell calf raises.

i didnt say that i wanted my calves to be small when i still have a weightloss goal that needs to be achieved.
I was noting that despite the weightloss i HAVE already achieved that there's been no change in my calves. My concern was that in the future when my goals are reached i will still be left with disproportionate calves.

Also, being flippant aside, calling someone foolish is fairly rude and uncalled for, i have gotten a lot of useful information and advice here from some genuine people. If you have nothing productive to say, perhaps SAY LESS?

Regardless of what some fitness programs or instructors may claim you can't spot reduce fat. To reduce fat on your calf just keep exercising, eventually it will go away but it may be the last place to lose fat. It may be worth exercise early in the morning, having only some carbs and water before hand. This will mean that the body will use your fat stores more during exercise

No need to call me rude, its perfectly valid to point out that you can't know how your calves will appear when you're at the weight you want, until you're there. How do you know you haven't lost some fat from them already, have you been measuring them over the past x amount of months?

Plus even if fat has been lost from there they've more than likely gotten bigger just from the exercise.

I doubt it, it would be hard to gain muscle on a calorie deficit required to lose weight, plus calves are hard to gain size on for most people it would seem.

Okay, bigger was probably the wrong word to use. Definitely more toned and ''defined''. I know when I first started working out, after the first week or two I noticed a definite difference in my calves from all the cycling etc.

YES calves and waise.... Theres been approx 1cm of a difference and i've dropped 3 jeans sizes but they still dont fit on my calves.

Heres to hoping it will go away eventually, like the pre boom.... sigh
