ok the most important points that you need to consider.....

    1-it has no battery pack
2-it has no charger inlet or associated wires, just a hole in the side

it currently works off a 9v battery in a holder, attached to what remains off the battery pack ( ie 2 small pieces of metal) via crocodile clips

Problem 1 -this is fine except that i have no way of attaching it to mains power.......
problem 2- every time i change the battery the memory goes blank.....

i think i remember seeing a universal mains adapter that had a 9v battery attachment?
    Any ideas

Argos, Maplin, Homebase etc do adaptors.

    Make sure polarity

-(@+ center positive is common and likely on Uniden

    some devices have
    +(@- center minus.

My scanner has no marking at socket, but is centre positive and the little picture as above is beside belt clip with voltage (12V, even though it uses about 6V worth of batteries). The belt clip hides the model number!
Uniden 80 channel UK Band Radio Scanner.

There may be CR2032 or simialr coin cell inside for memory
