So Abyss is back doing gimmick matches. Didn't take long, did it?

Then again, I suppose between the flaming table at BFG and the fall from the scaffold at TP, Abyss and stunts were never really divorced.

The card actually looks quite decent. Haven't watched TNA (or any wrestling, for that matter) in some time but I reckon I'll watch this.

Read in Power Slam yesterday that Victoria has been released from her WWE contract. Anyone else think she would be a breath of fresh air to the knock-outs division?

Damn that looks like a pretty decent card alright.
No Bravo 2 on NTL, so i'll have to set a timer for 9am the following Saturday, but i'll keep my eye on it for sure.

I'm actually really looking forward to it, I'll probably watch it live. The Match of 10000 Tacks should be good (the last one was good and it had Raven and Black Reign and Rellik (thats Killer spelled backwards) in it.) The Knockout matches are pretty meh but the rest of the card is excellent.

Over the last couple of weeks I've gone through all the Ultimate X matches I have on DVD and it's made me realise how awesome the match is. The last two have been rather lacklustre so hopefully they can make up for it this time.

Including that clusterf*ck one they had around 2005?

    Could you pin it down?

If you want to catch up on all the TNA storylines over the last 5 weeks the first 11 minutes of this video does it quite well:

I would if i could remember the exact one :(
The one where the X fell off 3 times!

I think that's actually happened twice, let alone the rest of the matches when it's "only" fallen once or twice. :P

I can't remember it ever falling three times (from memory). At BFG '05, the X fell once, they put it back up and it fell again right into Petey Williams hands to end the match. (They redid the match on iMPACT! a few weeks later and the X nearly fell again leading the crowd to chant 'please don't fall' at the X, thankfully it didn't).

Ah where's a-hole when I need him? He's a massive TNA mark from years back and would be answer this in seconds, lol.

You sure it was only once? I thought it was more.
Also was that edited for the DVD release? Cos that doesn't seem to be on mine, but i did see a video from a live tv airing.

The belt fell twice in the first Ultimate X match which led them to use electrical tape to hold it up the next time.

    Sabin explains it here:

Damn, wish I could get access to my old harddrive. It would've been at some PPV in 06, it definitely fell at least twice, and I'm almost certain 3 times.

BFG '05, not on the DVD I have. They did put the iMPACT! rematch on as an extra. It definitely wasn't '05 'cause I can safely say I've seen all the '05 Ultimate X's.

    Here's all the Ultimate X's I haven't seen:
Chris Sabin defeated Michael Shane (c), Christopher Daniels and Low-Ki to win the TNA X Division Championship, Weekly PPV 76, January 7, 2004

Chris Sabin (Team USA) defeated Petey Williams (Team Canada), and Hector Garza (Team Mexico) to win the 2004 TNA World X Cup, Weekly PPV 96,
    May 26, 2004

Michael Shane and Frankie Kazarian defeated A.J. Styles to become TNA X Division co-champions, Weekly PPV 105 July 28, 2004

Chris Sabin defeated Elix Skipper and Sonjay Dutt to become the number one contender to the TNA X Division Championship, The Best Damn Sports Show Period November 10, 2004

I've all the TNA PPV's here, i'll be happy to check if they can give me a closer timeframe, the month or something. I'm sure it was pre 06 though as I remember i got the tape around the time of Summer Bash at the RDS, which was 2005.

It had to be one of the four I posted above because I've seen all the rest and (unless I'm seriously forgetting one or the Wikipedia page is missing one) I don't remember it ever falling more than twice. And I have gone through all the other 11 in the last couple of weeks.

Well the one i had in mind was the one that fell into Sabin's hands at the end. So I'm gonna take your word on that. :)

The BFG one fell for the second time into Petey's arms but three of the four I haven't seen were one by Sabin so...

Cant give a closer date than '06 I'm afraid, that's when I got into TNA, round the summertime, acquired all the PPVs from that year to catch up.

To get back to the original point, the Ultimate X matches are hilarious when they go wrong :pac:

Think I may stay up for this one. First time in a long time for TNA.

I wonder will Don West join Mike Tenay tonight?

How are all you guys watching it, I am on Live Stram but if there's a better way plaese tell me.

It would be shocking if West left during a PPV.

Gonna be watching on the Bravo repeat next weekend, won't be catching it live.

I know this probably doesn't need to be said, just to cover our ass, i'll kindly ask that if streams are going to be mentioned, please only by do it PM

Poor ppv so far but the end of the ultimate x was pretty damn cool I must admit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

X-cellent Ultimate X match (see what I did there), the undercard was only really there to continue the push of AJ and Joe. 3D/Beer Money will obviously go on to Lockdown.

Good Ultimate X, could have been linger but I'm not complaining. Let's see how Mick Foley turns in Sting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,492 ✭✭✭EdK

Good PPV on paper but wasnt great in reality

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 256 ✭✭OrtonViper

It was possibly the worst PPV ever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Put it on 4 different times and put it off within 3 minutes each time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

It was an alright PPV, Ultimate X was fantastic and Angle/Sting was good. AJ and Joe were treated right and it was really designed to set up Lockdown.

I can't help but think the Ultimate X would've been better if it was treated more like 5 singles competitors instead of 2 tag teams + 1 but in saying that it was still far and away the best match of the night. Pretty much everything else was ridiculous.

Just spoke to Austin Watson, aka TNA's Consequences Creed.

He was more or less knocked out in the Ultimate X match last night after a german suplex, and has no memory of the match after that, but amazingly finished the match.

He went to the trainer after the match and was told he had a concussion.

He's feeling better today but had a severe headache last night.

He's not schedule to wrestle today on TV, which is good.

Agreed, the Ultimate X was exciting stuff.. loved it.

From what i've seen though, the rest of the PPV's an absolute abomination. I hate these shows that fans are expected to pay for, that provide very little in themselves, other than building up to another show.

To be fair the Styles/Booker match was good, if a little short, the main event was good and the Tag title match was decent, despite the bad finish. I agree with you on the using a PPV to build towards other shows. The X-Division could do with an injection of new talent.

I didn't think the Booker/Styles match was anything to write home about, mainly because the build-up was atrocious. The Tag title match was okay, and while the Main Event was a decent match, i felt that the storyline heading in was atrocious.
Generally when i criticise TNA, it's from the perspective that the TV/creative is so awful that it's counterproductive to increasing PPV buys. I would have loved the Main Event had it a logical, quality storyline behind it.

The X-Division could do with a complete rehaul, and long-term planning that actually builds to attractive PPV matches that are a distinct step up from the free TV matches.
