not sure if this is a p.i really buy it's certainly is an issue to me.
my mother has worked in vodafone for the past 6 years, which never phased me either way, but recently she made a flippant comment to me which made me freak and become paranoid as a result. basically my question is, can the staff in the call centres and beyond gain access to your text messages. me and the boyf have been know to exchange the fair few risque text s and i would be absoultely horrified if i thought she could read them. i asked her one day in a roundabout way and she said they couldn't but to be honest i'm not so sure. shoudl i stop with the messages for this reason or am i over reacting?

No they can't read your texts.

Even if they did, there so many texts to read that they would never get to read them all.

You don't explain what this is.

any chance she read your phone? more likely than risking getting fired, if it's even possible to read texts, which i doubt it is

as far as i know they can read individual texts - if they searched on the number.
    or some staff can.

If you're that bothered by it just change operator.

That or make up some crazy stuff in your texts for your mother to read like how you're pregnant, taking heroin and secretly married to your boyfriend. That'll really mess her head.

A friend of mine is from dundalk and her sister and a few mates have worked at vodafone. Apparantly they can read the messages but if they got caught they would be in serious trouble.

Switch to Meteor! Get your boyfriend to switch too! Free texts to each other and free calls! Happy Days!

I'd imagine reading your texts without your permission would be some kind of breach of the Data Protection Act? But I'm not sure.

Anyway I'm sure your mam can imagine the kind of stuff you'd be sending so she's hardly going to want to read them.

I dont imagine your mom can but I do believe they can be read. I believe in many ways they are!

Maybe I should have posted under conspir theorys! :D

Some staff can read texts yes thats a fact.

I had an ex who worked for one provider and I was worried she was reading my very risque texts to newbies so I switched provider.. simple solution for a peaceful mind.

I don't think they can read the content of texts anymore. I was talking to someone from O2 about this recently and they said that due to data protection act, they can't access any texts - they can't even tell you the content of texts that you yourself sent.

I've worked there, my Mam works there and I can tell you OP that this is absolutely not true.

Afaik, the only time texts can ever be read by anyone other than the sender or the recipient is if the Gardai make a request for them. CSR's on the desk cannot read text messages, all they can see is what number you sent texts to, what times and what dates. They can't see anything else.

embee - yep this is what I was told too! They can only see number, date and time, not content!

    I reckon they possibly can.

I know a few people working in some of the banks and they have access to peoples bank accounts. Some of them frequently look up famous persons and their mates etc, although if caught would be in serious trouble.

I would have no idea how it works in Vodafone but would imagine they could read txt messages if they really wanted

Soooo, you don't actually have a clue what you are talking about?

No one on the helpdesk can read the contents of a text message. I can state that as a fact.

Eric Cartman no more off topic posts. Deleted, next time a ban. Thanks

Since this thread is full of conjecture and hearsay and is going rapidly nowhere. I'm locking it

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
