Howdy folks, i'm new here (on the fitness forum that is) so go easy.

Anywho, I'm in the middle of trying to get fit again after a break of 3 years of doing little but eat bad food, chain smoke, not get much exercise and generally act the maggot.

Before I stopped training, I used to run 5k every other day, swim 3-4k a week (with the college team), do heavy lifting 3 times a week and had my body fat % at just under 6.

Three and a half years later and I've put on a ridiculous amount of weight and can barely run 500 metres.
Although I'm still able to lift what I used to (actually a bit more), after my recent workouts I feel like I've been hit by a bus and I just can't seem to recover at all until a good few days later.

Swam 1k last night (at a fairly pathetic pace tbh) and today I'm in bits.

    Anywho I've a few questions :
    1. Should I avoid running until I lose a good bit of weight through swimming/weights/diet or should I be alright just taking it easy when I do go running?
I was big into running a few years back and used to do a nice 10 mile run every weekend (it nearly makes me cry thinking of that considering how fcuked I am when I attempt to run these days).
So I'd love to get back into a nice running regime as soon as possible.

    2. I'm sorting out my diet in a big way at the moment, eating whole foods, eating 5-6 meals per day, getting plenty of protein, etc. Anyways I just got some whey shake powder today and was pretty horrified by how it tastes. Any advice on how to take the edge off that bizarre taste and general advice about taking supplements?

    3. How can I speed up my recovery times? Is it just a case of ride out the first few tough weeks?

    4. I'm about 4 stone heavier than I was when I used to train regularly so is there any particular injury risks I should look out for?

Remember I'm new here so go easy. Thanks:pac::pac:
