so i was deadlifting at the weekend and i got a horrible burning sensation in my lower back aswell as a lot of stiffness. it lasted during and for about an hour afterward. i know it means my form isnt perfect and ill be working on that, but is there an anything in particular that would cause this. im sure my back was arched, chest up, pushed through the floor, so what is it im doing wrong. ill try post a vid when i do it this week. but is there anything obvious that i should work on. cheers in advance for any words of wisdom.

Welcome to lower back pump. Lower back pump is extemely uncomfortable but is very different from back pain. The fact that it subsided is a good clue that it isn't an injury. It's not a bad sign just shows you're hitting your lower back muscles.

It definitely doesn't indicate poor form. That's not to say your form isn't poor but this isn't necessarily a sign.

i was lifting 90kg and doing the starting strength program so 3x5 squat at 82 kg, 3x5 bench at 52kg and 1x5 deadlift all with warmups starting with the bar. im 67kg 5'8''. im only doing it about a month, i could be trying to lift too much cause it felt really hard.
    thanks.

thanks, it did feel like that but i thought it cant just be muscle burn. i didnt think my form was bad tbh, but when your back feels like youve done a 1000 hyper exts you start to wonder. ill get a vid of it anyway just to be sure.
is it going to be this hard every time? my whole body feels fcuked up for a second or two. squats are a piece of piss in comparison.

I would agree with Kevpants. Pain in the lower part of the back after deadlifting is usually a sig tht you worked hard. I always get this after daedlifts and its last for a couple of days until it Subsides. Doms is what it is. As they say no pian no gain. Just make sure you get someone to observe your form and correct it where neccessary. I asked an experinced lad in the gym to checkmy form when I started deadlifting and he stated the psoture was all bad at the time which I have corrected since. You can do serious damage using heavy weights for this exercise if your form is off kilter hence some poeple use weight belts

Bigstar, take a look at the title of your post, and then read your first post again. You mention 'pain' in your post title, but not anywhere else in your first post.

Beware of using the word 'pain' incorrectly guys. Pain is pain, it's oh **** what did I just do I need a physio pronto versus DOMS, stiffness, general burning sensation which is often the result of a good workout and hard work.

In fact, it's a good sign that your lower back is stiff and burning after DLs - if it was your neck or upper back that was the same then you've done something wrong.
