Help Heart Rate

    Hi all

    Am 45 year old male,average fitness, tried to find optimum heart rate zones for training but got conflicting results.

    Resting heart rate is 56 bpm, max (running at full pelt) is 182 bpm

    Used karovinin calc and training zone should be between 134 (65%) - 158(85%) bpm but tried couple of other on line calcs and got different figures. can any one verify that these figures are OK

    I got

    at 65% - 133.35 BPM
    at 85% - 157.15 BPM

    looks good :)

    RHR = reating heart rate

    bpm at % = (((220-age)-RHR)*training%) + RHR

    The karvonan method etc are alright as tools but as far as im concerned you should train cardio as hard as your body allows as long as you have no health risks, the harder you work the more fit you get and the more calories you burn-simple stuff really...

    Full pelt, won't do much for your aerobic capacity though and risk of injury does increase (assuming an impact sport such a running) with intensity. There is also the recovery factor. You might burn more calories per session going flat out but you can't do it every day. There is a strong case for some strong sharp sessions in any plan but there is also a case for aerobic work.

    Thanks for comments so I will keep heart rate between 65% & 85%
