I assume the 2nd date is the date the tickets go on sale for that concert?

Yep! I'm not sure how accurate it is as their own site is down!

Only one date for Dublin? Uh oh. The clamour for tickets is gonna be huge.

Rumoured to be playing the 25 & 27 at Croke Park as well.

The recession will hopefully remove a fair few out of the race for tickets as well.

Tickets should be easier than previous years to get.

See U2 at Croker... for €25

World tour tipped to include thousands of cheap tickets

U2 will be offering tickets to its Croke Park concerts starting from a recession-busting €25.

And the band will be performing on a special spaceship-style set in the centre of the pitch, doing away with the traditional vast stage which can often block views.

The special set means U2 will smash previous attendance records at Croke Park with 95,000 people filing the stadium on July 24, 25 and 27 as part of their 'Kiss the Future' world tour which will last two years.
Speculation is mounting that about 10,000 of these tickets will be priced at €25.

Drummer Larry Mullen revealed yesterday that U2's stadium tour will feature the spaceship-style set.

"From what I've seen it's like a spaceship and I know we've done spaceships before and walked out of citrus fruits," he said in an interview with 2fm's Larry Gogan.

"This is four legs and this allows us to be placed close to the centre of the stadium. It hasn't been done before. It's a very unusual production. Essentially it's trying to bring the band closer to the audience and that's the challenge."

He added: "We plan to tour this summer. We start off in Europe for two months and then we go to America for two months and we come back in 2010 and start in America and finish off in Europe. We are going to do it over two years and we're hoping to work on some more music in between."

The band's tour dates are set to be unveiled today, with tickets on sale on Saturday, March 14, starting from just €25 and rising to €120. U2 will also confirm gigs at Wembley, London, on August 14 and 15, again with record 100,000-plus crowds, sources confirmed.
They are also expected to announce concerts to play in front of 65,000 at Glasgow's Hampden Park on August 18 and 85,000 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on August 22.

U2's Croke Park gigs are expected to create an Irish record concert income of about €7.5m.

Bono and the boys are set to post record incomes thanks to placing the stage in the centre of the pitch and packing the field with 10,000-plus standing fans, adding to the stadium's 82,300 seated capacity. About 95,000 fans are expected, beating the 90,556 record crowd at the old Croke Park, set at the 1961 Offaly v Down All-Ireland football final.

    Attendances
The band's Wembley shows are also both expected to make more than the UK's current record-grossing concert -- Madonna's €8m Wembley show last September. U2's August 14 and 15 'Kiss the Future' attendances will be the largest ever concert crowd at the new or old Wembley. The crowds are also likely to top the 100,000 seen for Wembley football matches up to the 1970s.
That means U2 will be Wembley's biggest gate since the day the old stadium opened in 1923, when 200,000 flooded the ground for the 'White Horse' football FA Cup Final.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness said: "This is going to be a very big tour, the biggest shows we've ever done."

The 'Kiss the Future' tour starts at Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium on June 30 and will take in the Stade de France in Paris on July 10 and 11, along with Nice, Berlin and Amsterdam before arriving in Ireland and the UK.
The band then heads to North America, starting a two-month run with a concert in Chicago on September 12.

And the great news for U2 fans is that the group will tour again next year, promoting their album 'Songs of Ascent', scheduled for release in 2010.
They will hit the US and Canada in June and arrive in Europe for a two-month stint in August 2010, before heading for South America.

There is going to be a presale for members of U2.com (as there was last time), if you are really desperate to get tickets to it you would be well advised to shell out the $50 membership fee of U2.com as it makes getting tickets very easy... it did last time anyway.

Don't think I'll go to this one myself, I've seen U2 a couple of times now and to be honest I am beginning to find them a bit annoying. Think I will try to go to Wacko Jacko over in London though.

This thread is hardly going to get off the ground is it?

U2 are promoted by those who must not be spoken of in Ireland.

For the last tour, if you weren't subscribed to U2.com by the time the tour was announced, you didn't get to avail of the pre-sales offer. So, at this stage, don't waste your money.

    Is that definite?
I'd nearly take the plunge and pay the $50 to be guaranteed the tickets. You get a double CD too AFAIK. Might e-mail the site to find out.

No, last time it was when they announced the date of sale for the tickets, rather than the announcement of the tour dates.

Tickets go onsale 20th March. I hope i have enough money since it will be just after Paddys day when they go onsale. Yea i read in the Sunday World that they are gonna play 3 dates in Croke Park

standard gig-onomics. no point in selling 2/3 of the tickets for all 3 shows. the fixed costs remain the same, there's less punters to cover them, makes bad financial sense. Best is to release one, sell out one, release second, sell out second, check speed of second sell out and then decide whether to actually do a third or not.

word is that springsteen allegedly had a 3rd night in RDS provisionally booked for this years jaunt, but didn't bother exercising the option.

This drives me ****ing crazy about U2.Why can't they just announce the 3 gigs at the start?
Everybody will be going crazy trying to get tickets for that show.A large fraction of the audience for the first gig will be foreigners as a result.Which is very unfair on the home crowd...

Well then you go to another country to see them too, using their tickets:rolleyes: Just because the gig is in Ireland, it doesn't mean Irish people have first call on tickets.

a tip for folks who don't end up getting tix.
go see them at the Millenium Stadium Cardiff.
    Why?

well outside of the fact that it's a great venue when they close the roof but also cos it's the 'home gig' for the Edge and the atmosphere is almost as good as a Dublin gig. Saw them there last time and it was great for me (a non fan and my partner who loves them).

To be honest I knew all this was coming so I signed up a few weeks ago - and got my "U2 go home" double CD of the last gig I was at (second slane date in 01) in the post today. :D

I have my presale code and my grouping bracket but still no notion as to when the presale takes place?

If you sign up for membership now is it too late to get the presale info?

pre-sale is traditionally 2-3days before the public sale.

I joined U2.com a few years ago for the Vertigo tour so I could buy tickets
in the presale for Croker.I got a pair in the stand opposite Hill 16 in the top tier.I could not have been further from the stage if I tried. That particular night the sound was awful from where I was seated. Will take my chances this year in a hope to get a standing ticket.

Could anyone direct me as to where I could buy U2 tickets for their French concerts when they go on sale? Thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 Ragglepuss

I think that you can get the tickets if you sign up for the presale as it covers european concerts also. You have to pay $50 membership fee but I think this is the safest option.
The other option would be to go onto ticketmaster.com and get the tickets for france. Hope this helps!

Think this is where I got my Paris Iron Maiden ticket. Ticket in front of me doesn't mention site.

EDIT: This is directed at Darwin...99% its the site.

EDIT2: Checked Iron Maiden site...make that 100% sure.

You could choose wherever you wanted to be in the presale for the Vertigo tour. I bought standing tickets in the presale, was in the pit and ended up about 3 metres from the stage.

so does anyone know can i still pay for subscription today after the tour dates have been announced and be part of the third group for presale or was it only available up until announcement today do ye think. I am only an unpaid member at moment and want to subscribe. Used the presale code for VERTIGO and it worked with no problems.

    Hi all,

If you get standing tickets in the presale is that just general admission or is there some sort of fan club pit setup?

If the Irish government had any substance, they wouldn't allow those tax exiles to play a gig here.

Good idea Leif Erikson. Ban any musical group that doesn't pay tax here. I will pass that idea onto my local TD.

Just found out that this discussion definitely falls under the MCD umbrella, so I'm closing the thread. Discussion of U2 concerts that are not taking place in Ireland is fine on this forum, so feel free to throw up a new thread as long as you abide by the ban on MCD events.
