was looking at these cars and there are some beautiful cars going for very good prices. Just such a stigma attached to blokes driving them its putting me off. Is it really that bad??

Nice replies! In general, its a womans car, but no worse than a TT in my eyes for a man to drive. Not as much of womans car as a Mini.

So long as you've topped up your fake tan that morning should be grand

People who think a car has some bearing on their sexuality, obviously have issues.....

Grow a pair and buy what you want. You don't need to seek a bunch of other mens approval to pick a car.
Now that would be a bit bufty.

I wouldn't consider it acceptable for a woman to drive, let alone a bloke!

The Audi TT (well, the first version anyway) is much more of a hairdresser's car than the Hyundai. Personally I wouldn't see anything wrong with a guy driving a Hyundai Coupé, or anything this side of a new Beetle, for that matter. It has been said that men often buy really macho cars to compensate for shortcomings (ahem) in other departments; so by that logic a guy driving a really girly car (be he straight, gay, or otherwise) does so because he has nothing to prove.

Says the man who drives the 7 series, what are you trying to hide? :D

EDIT: Just to be clear my opinion is that the Hyundai Coupe is not acceptable for a man to drive! My god what are you thinking?!

    entertaining thread,

what other cars would be a no-go for real men?

    IMO:

    megane coupes

    Old beetles- grand
New Beetles - no way, same for mini

saab 9-3 convertible, astra coupe convertible, most anything convertible!

What about the mk1? surely only after that did the coupe turn all girly, or was it always considered as such.

Lots of convertables are ok eg M3 Gallardo f430 etc

I'd drive one, so long as it required over €1k p.a. to tax.

    Ho hum...

I knew someone would sanctimoniously come up with that one...

However why buy a car whose main raison d'etre is looks/image if that image is a bit crap? For the perma-tanned, over-jewelled females who drive these cars they're fine I suppose.

That new one might be an exception. 2002 - 2007 was the girly time for the coupe imo.

    opel tigra

While we're on the topic of going off the original topic (which was excellently and entertainedly (new word:))answered by all, what exactly is the purpose of an astra coupe convertible..it just has to be the most pointless car in the world...a hard top 4 door Astra is a perfectly good family saloon car...functional, 'does what it says on the tin' kind of car...but a coupe convertible???...it just doesn't make sense, even for a girly ..it's not pretty, it doesn't go fast, both males and females look daft in it..especially in Ireland..there's no purpose what-so-ever...just why oh why, did they make such a pointless car..and more to the point,,,would love to know who drives one?

Cars that can drive on water always look cooler than they actually are.
you have to picture it sitting beahind a 54a outside peter marks in Crumlin village on a wet Tuesday

Don'tbe confused, that new Genesis is an entirely different animal to the Coupé. Whereas the Coupé is front-wheel drive and has several bits that would fit perfectly on your Sonata, the Genesis has an all-new rear-wheel drive platform. :D:D:D

I'd drive a facelifted 05-07 Coupe no bother. Nice car, leather standard, sunroof cd. 1.6 isn't an overly bad engine and very reliable.

Saying that, I wouldn't drive a Beetle, 206 or Fiesta if someone paid me.

What about a Ford Street Ka, it'd be easier to park!

Tbh I don't particular like either cars but how about a Celica, its less effeminate.

It's true, I have an exceptionally small penis. :(
But to make up for it, I keep a Hyundai Coupé in the boot in case I get a flat.

I'd agree that the 206 is on the girly side, however it makes for a great starter car and you see just as many lads driving them as girls.

i saw an 08 one in merlin 2 weeks ago go for 18k. i was amazed as i didnt think the were worth anything near that.
missus drove a 00 for a while big bright yellow thing. my god the shame of having to go anywhere in it. and op yes they do look at u funny but hers was a funny looking car mind u.

    Sad really.

I drive possibly the gayest car imaginable (bought off a gay chap no less!), but I'll make no apology for likeing/choosing it or not giving a toss what anyone else thinks about it. No car is going to re-affirm your sexuality or undermine it.

Buy the coupe if you like it. It's a grand car by most accounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Not going to tell us what you drive? Lol!

Conversely I've another, more 'macho' car, and I don't expect to have to wear a chestwig for that one.

Just drive whatever you like. Simple as that.

A gay car with gay car wheels... Not bad :P:pac:

I'm only joking. Nothing gay about a Pao. There aren't enough of them for them to be gay.

Only way you could get away with it is if it was black. But why would you bother when you could buy something that will hold it's value better for the same budget and not get laughed at. Agree with other posters though, it is a girls car.
