Running after illness...

    Hi folks,

I was quite unfit after xmas and had put on a nice bit of weight so decided to start running. I was always playing 5aside footy on a wed and thur but I was only at a level of fitness where I could play it comfortably for an hour but nothing more.

So I started running and began with 2 mile runs 3 times a week. It wasn't long before I had it up to 3.5 mile runs and I was loving it. My faside fitness was much better too as a result. Great stuff I thought. Then I got a chest infection and was coughing up a lot of green stuff and went to the doctor. I was put on antibiotics and was off work for a week. I finished the drugs on wednesday and played footy on thursday night.

The problem is though, that I felt like I had been kicked up and down the road by the karate kid afterwards. I was so sore all over. Even this morning I am still sore but its only minor stiffness.

Is it too soon to go back to running or in the space of ten days have I regressed so much that I am back to where I was before I started running? Should I be back running already maybe?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I was really enjoying the running and want to get fit as soon as I can. Thanks all!

I started running a few months ago.

Built up to a 5K run and then got sick.

Took me 10 days after recovering to be able to work up to the 5K again.

Just be patient and give it some time, see how you feel after running and training in a couple of weeks. You'll probably be back to where you were before getting sick.
