i reckon that's a total fail, that yoke is too big and clunky to go in the average garden!! & at that price!!

Sure some guy on the english DD invented a simple cover that just clips on to the average wash line & does the same job!! 50 quid!!

I'm sure he might sell a few of them up and down the country but its far too small fry for venture capitalists to go in on!!

Typical Irish!! We'll invest in anything!! Whaddya mean prices can go down as well as up !!!

Fair play to washing line man, great money for only a very small slice of company. Wonder if the British dragons would have invested those figures?

I dunno, I like it, I'd buy one. Just one, mind.

The problem with the washing machine dude (and the light in bag guy from last week) is that they are just investing because they like the entrepreneurs even though the products are barmy. Which is not really the point at all.

Plus has anyone else noticed how caked in makeup everyone is?

    Agreed!
But surely now that the idea has been published on television they have some sort of rights to it?

He's from North Kerry, as far as I recall from his appearance on ?Late Late Show/Ryan Tubridy methinks, after Ireland won the Elephant polo world cup.

I'd say he knew none of the dragons would invest...that he was there for the free advertising and getting his name out there. Think of the people who will now contact his office in Fermoy out of sheer interest now

This lad has been on the go ages, he had no interest in investment. He has been on every tv show you can think of, late late, tubridy etc with the same rubbish. Its just media attention, the sad thing is he actually has done those other events he has mentioned, including the first irish sumo wrestler. I think on a show with people trying to bring real ideas to the table and get investment its pathetic they even let this sort of eegit on.

50 quid?Try 20 it was called rotomate - his was a clothes line cover that filtered rain water down the middle of a standard spinning clothes line though. So it wasnt exactly the same and didnt have the added value of a piece of furniture, while 1500 is a very high price he has sold 25@ €950 which isnt bad at all without any real marketing. It does allow people to have a clothes line down the end of their garden without having the usual eye sore, i think he will do alright out of it.

oh yeah, i agree he'll do alright with it selling a few as garden furniture.. but it's not the type of thing for venture capitalists is it? they should be lookin to multiply that sort of investment a fair few times over, taking a risk on the next big thing.. 5 years ago he'd have done ten times better with it aswell & the bank would have thrown the money at him for it!!

mr yellow suit is really good at doing these pointless stunts, he's got sponorship before, his only problem was calling the thing the paddygames, it such negative thing, call it the sillyolympics and he nearly have got the money.

they don't do enough ideas pershow it seems, do they do as many as the uk show?

he was selling a gazebo, not a covered washing line, wasn't he?

I think calling it the sillyolympics wouldnt have done him any favours either, its hardly a marketable name and id be suprised if he gets 20 entries let alone 250 its a ridiculous idea. His previous sponsorship was for events that alread existed he just took part in them and represented Ireland in them where we wouldnt normally have entered.

They show as many as the UK one they just dont seem to show as many successful or near successful ones. Its like the Irish entries either get their attention or fail miserably and are in the quick segments leaving only 2 or 3 that lasted more than 10 mins in the Den.

He was selling a covered washing line that was dressed up as a gazebo come table to make it look more appealing, as he said himself he cant patent it because of the 3 individual parts (clothesline, table, gazebo). The main idea of it though was to keep clothes dry from the rain and save on using energy to tumble dry your clothes.

I know it's probably been said to death by now, but RTÉ played Dragon's Den perfectly. They translated the show pretty much faithfully and made none of the mis-haps that truthfully do plague alot of their productions.

They deserve serious credit for this, and hopefully it will mean the people involved will get to do simliar things to other properties for RTÉ in the future.

Very poor episode last night - it'd going downhill tbh, the calibre of the products/ideas is no where near the UK version.
If this programme does not improve, it'll be a 1 series show I think.

I noticed in tonights episode that Richard Curran says 'Entrepreneur' correctly (kindof), I presume after last weeks embarrassment, they went back & re-did his segments again.

I do think that the RTE version is a nice show, with nice dragons, nice entrepreneurs, some of whom have nice ideas, with entertaining pitches, (but for many) the RTE version just doesnt have the 'bite' or the flair of the BBC version, which has 'Real Dragons' (no messing about/Ruthless).

P.S. I would be slightly concerned about the guy in the yellow suit.

the blokes are too nice, and the women is too much of a b, i thought she unnecessarily laughed at the window - curtain people.

would you blame her? It was and is one of the most dumb ass ideas ever.:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I don't blame her for laughing. The guys (god bless their efforts) had 2 planks nailed together and attached to a window sill. Seriously. Absolutely positively guaranteed to crease any curtains you put in them.

Their response? Something like "We're targeting people who don't care about creased curtains". Yup.

A clothes peg half way down and an inverted u-shaped piece of cardboard on the floor would achieve the same thing (and wouldn't look as bad.... probably).

    Hmmmm.... www.rte.ie/dragonsden ... application form ......
