Its the driver behind the wheel not the car itself.

But I do tend to see a4's and passats bullying cars off the road in order to get to a place faster by 2 or 3 minutes. The 100km/hr limit doesnt seem to be enough for them. I have no sympathy for those that break the speed limit.

It was actually refreshing today to see everyone in front and behind me doing the 100km/hr and no acts of stupidity like trying to tailgate in order for a car to push into the hard shoulder

I think you'll find that the most curtious drivers drive the same car as you.

I always find people who drive Saabs (more-so 9-5's) obliging.

Because a thread designed to tar drivers with the same grateful brush will (and has already) swiftly become a thread tarring those that aren't worthy of praise.

See post 1, post 2 and post 6.

And where has that gotten us in the past.

That's definitely true - I drive a Colt, and there are a few other Colts around my college but I'm the only girl driver (and also mine is by far the nicest :D) ... if I ever meet another Colt when I'm driving round the college car park trying to get a space, we're always really polite to each other and let each other out etc.

    God I love my car.

    +1
Id say Saab's and Volvo's would be the nicest. Worst would be vans, Mercs, BMW's and some modified cars (im talking about muppits who drive their 1.3 skangermobiles like their on a track, not those who take the hobby seriously.)

In fairness, one of your Vantasks.ie vans actually let me onto a roundabout there last week. How many of them are there?

    On topic, silly, silly thread.

Did you see what colour shirt the driver was wearing? Might be just as relevant as their make of car.

And polite for me would be.... Ather mercs( we talked about this issue allready :D )

P.S BMW drivers just hate me on the road, specially coupe ones!!

women, women have to be the most unhappy drivers. They never let anyone out. Then you have mercs and BM's. oh nearly forgot bus eireann, they just pull out in front of you regardless of how fas your going.

politest drivers on the roads by far are truck drivers

I don't agree. I drive a Passat and try to be courteous and relaxed, but I see some poor behaviour from other Passat drivers.

I really don't think you can link behaviour to a car type - some of the worst offenders drive white vans, but some white van drivers are very considerate.

Went out for a cycle in the Phoenix Park the other week and they were like the Jack Russell terriers of the road once faced with something that was actually smaller than them! Them and Polo drivers. I should have taken note of their reg numbers so I could return the favour once I was back in the car :)

I do alot of driving, both urban and rural. I might get my hand slapped for this but my wife also agrees with this (for a change). I dont think its the cars as such, rather the person/profile driving it. Again, this is just my own experience....I think this lack of courtesy is linked to peoples mentality in life i.e. I'm going to get there first, I'm more important than you. I think your driving habits mimic your personality....

most courtesy: truck drivers imo, when it comes to cars, its generally a car driven by a male 50+

least courtesy: women 25-40 driving the likes of a BMW's(;))

Lada drivers are the nicest despite their possesion of vastly superior vehicles to all those above, all other vehicles are inferior to Russia's greatest achievment.
What has capitalism gotten you hmm in soviet russia all cars are ladas sp their is no prejeduce all drivers are treated with similar disrespect as the ownership of a car is considered a shamefull display of greed.

    P.S. Hi Rob!!

I think it's mostly because when they try to accelerate the engine has no power and the lights start flashing. You think he is letting you out, but it's really an electrical problem.

I'd say truck drivers too, they often pull into the hard shoulder to allow passing when on primary routes, and rarely tailgate. The bigger the truck, the better the driver also IMO.

I'd say any car driven by a middle-aged women would be the least nice on the roads, rarely letting people out of junctions, and unlikely to thank you if you let them out.

Above comments are generalizations, and exceptions are out there :)

Saabs are stereotypically driven by 'nice people'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭snowman707

least courteous : BMW & Audi

F.A.O . the IDIOT in the black X5 06D***** looking out through about 3 inches of a frosted windscreen that nearly took me out about 8.30 am yesterday morning near woodview shopping centre Limerick, if I ever see such ignorant dangerous behaver from you again, I will deal with it by any means available to me.

    Most courteous Ford , toyota,

I must say that 99% of female 18-25 year olds in this area are both courteous & good drivers

Generally I've noticed that the more expensive the car the less courteous the driver.

I have found that Women drivers between the ages of 18-40 tend to expect people to give up their right of way to them but will go out of their way not to return the favor.

Also Boy racers have some of the worst road manors I've seen trying to bully the car in front and force their way in front of people, puts a smile on my face when I pass one with a sad look on his face standing next to his car freshly embedded into a street lamp etc...

    </rant>

my vote wouldn't be for a car, it would be for truck drivers, most of them pull over and let you past on the open roads, around towns, generally they let you out into their lane of trafic....

It was around Mitchelstown some night about 2 weeks ago, I was home for the weekend.

"Letting me onto a roundabout" does sound a bit daft alrite, maybe you let me out at a junction instead. At this stage I just remember that I saw your van, was after driving about 240 miles in the preceding 15 hours.:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

I was on my way to/from Cork exactly 2 weeks ago, it would have either been at about 4pm or maybe at about 11pm I would have been passing Mitchelstown area. It was me anyway :D

My papa always used to say how he spent ages waiting for people to let him out of an awkward access area so he always lets people out and I follow in the footsteps!

Agree on truck drivers aswell. If they can they move to slow lines.

Thought again, hate small cars, they ussually act, like bigest things on roads, and take more space then some 7 series bmw or huge Van. :D

Cool, proves the theory that boardsies do in fact exist in real life and are not some sort of Matrix type constructs. I've often wondered would people here put some kind of minuscule sticker on their auto to indicate they are a Motors regular. Well, would ye?

Anyway I used to follow the same mantra about leaving people out when I was driving tractors and other large machinery. Goes around, comes around and all that.

Not a bad idea, and have them in the same place on all cars. Bit of money to be made if someone wanted to a get a couple of hundred printed up.

I am a Clio driver (lady);),and I get such a good feeling letting other drivers out or will pull in and allow cars pass me,causthere is nothing worse than the car in front of you dawdelling along and hugging the centre of the road.
I also agree with the big suv,s with the blond mummy driving, they would not even rekon you when you let them out in traffic:mad:.Its nice to be nice, also nice to be acknowledged:D

As a motorcyclist, car drivers are the worst. Especially women. Women never let you out into traffic, and 9 out of 10 car drivers won't even wave of flash their lights when you let them in.

Truck, bus and motorcycle, all dead sound. Trucks always let you by and let you into traffic. Dublin bus drivers always let you past before they pull out, or even wave you to go past. Seem to be very considerate even though technically you shouldn't be in bus lanes.

The highlight bit has to be a joke. Most time when I see a truck, be it on a motorway or primary road, they are usually sniffing the butt off the car in front.

Alot of mentions for Audi's and Passatts for worst, maybe because these are considered company car and the guys driving these are usually in a rush to get "that sale", (Mondeos included).

No everyone on the road is an ashle, bar me....:D

I have to say though, a pet hate of mine is when I'm coming out of my estate to turn right onto a main road ... a car comes from the left, to turn right into my road, and they hold back to let me out first. I mean, have these people ever gone to driving lessons?! I'm always afraid to go out in case somehow there's a collision and I'll pretty much be in the wrong, because they had right of way.

I only did my test two years ago and my instructor taught me not to go out of my way to let anyone out for the test or I'd lose marks, so I still kind of have that habit. I'm not actually nasty about it, but I don't like taking responsibility for letting someone out in front of me in case, for example, a car might come up behind me on the outside and be in a collision with the car I've let out.

I don't think so, I think it's more noticable to see a truck tailgating cause you can imagine the possible carnage, but I think cars do it more frequently - Especially on the M50 where a lot of people don't leave an inch of space just so nobody can merge infront of them...

I'd agree with you with the repmobiles though, they can be agressive. Another group is the 10-year old 3-series crowd, they enjoy a bit of queue jumping imo.

Threads like this really uncover hatred of the general motoring population :pac:

As for tractor drivers? Why i oughta...
Nice polo drivers are becoming scarse nowadays too

I was driving a Chevrolet today & was amazed how badly I was treated by other drivers. People closing the gap to stop me getting in front of them, not letting me out at junctions etc...

Makes me wonder if I would treat other drivers badly differently depending on the type of car they drive.

i find in my car anyone who drives a small car will never let me out, that and range rovers and x5's (but i work in terenure and there all driven by mothers taking their precious rugby playing children down the road...)

people in other 4x4's, truck and large van drivers are always nice,

as for what i do, ill never let a woman out, or anyone in a small car, or scumbags(glanza enthusiasts), karma i do believe
