IMo yes!Protein shakes usually contain 130 kc per scoop and a lot of that is lactose. If you have two scoops in a pint of milk you could be looking at a possible calorie surplus that the body will have no choice but to store as fat while you're sleeping.
I found a good way to drop fat was to give up shakes altogether except immediatly after a workout and replace them with wholefoods.

thanks for the reply degsy. any suggestions for a snack before bed as sometimes i find that i'm hungry at about 22.00 before i go to bed, is it better just to ignore it go to bed on an empty stomach or will my body then start to store fat?

Couple of boiled eggs does the job for me.

Go to bed hungry IMO. If I'm trying to lose weight, that's what I (more or less) aim for. less time you're awake and hungry. :)
