Unfortunatly due to the dreaded R word I'm basically broke due to cutbacks, and I've had to say goodbye to my gym membership. Anyone got any suggestions for free (or dirt cheap) ways to keep devolping my body besides walking? I find it hard to exercise without other people around to make me competitive. :)

Indulge yourself in the world of calisthenics. There is no limit to what you can do with just bodyweight.

You havent said what your goals are but attached is a bodyweight circuit program I did for a friend who wanted to keep fit on days he was working away from Dublin. Its designed to be done on a rugby pitch, but you can easily work around that.

My goals or the thread creator's?

I've used calisthenics to improve all areas of my fitness and have been doing so with tremendous success.

The OP I guess. There is a park near me with dip staions and chinup bars, there are many stuctures and railings in my area to chinups and dips on to, some are much better than the proper parallel bars! just keep an eye out.

    rubadub,
Do you happen to be on Bodyweight Culture by any chance? There's a member there with the same username. :P

Yes thats me! Pretty good site, though some members are a bit "anti-weights" for no good reason.

I found a few other forums on bodyweight stuff but none are very active. This gymnastics forum is Ok too, though I have not bothered to join yet. http://gymnasticbodies.com/forum/

    Do you know any others?

Take up running. Pick a race a few months from now and start training for it.

Running can be hard at first and more difficult to get into than other sports but once you get used to it it is hugely rewarding and great for fitness/weight loss.

while lifting weights and using the cardio machines are great for keeping fit and all i still feel that cycling/jogging along with press ups, chin ups, dips and the plank/bridge can easily keep you in top shape!

Both BWC and GB are good, though I find BWC members to be some of the most open minded around. :S

I read some of the articles on T-Nation, though the forums are something to stay away from. If you're not training via iron or guzzling down protein shakes and trying to get bigger, they'll skin you alive.

Crossfit has some interesting workouts, though some members are to die-hard in their reverence of their training method.

And then there's the fights between Crossfitters and Bodybuilders....

I've also heard good things about Pavel and Dragondoor, though I can't say I've been to the site often.

I think BWC is one of the best fitness sites around personally. A great resource.
