This was mooted a while back...

Just wondering if we have enough bodies or interest for a Cork/Munster boards spin?

If we have numbers we can decide on date/route.

Let me know if you are interested !

    Nothing to see here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭TheTubes

I only came into the cycling forum for the first time last week and ordered my first road bike today, so it'l be a while before I'm able for a boards spin :)
But if ye do get a regular group then I would be up for coming along when I get my fitness levels up.

What sort of distance would ye be talking about? (so i can train up for it! :o )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 sha23

I could see myself being up for this. Sounds like a good idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭SomeFool

I'd be up for this too, I don't get many free weekends though but if it becomes a regular outing I'd join ye at some stage.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭blind_hurler

I'd be interested but I've to pick up a new bike which I'm looking around for at the moment so I'll hopefully join in the future

    Best of luck with it

Don't worry about being able for it - It'll only be a leisurely spin and we can decide on route to suit all of us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

    Sunday would suit me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭TheTubes

if my bike is delivered and put together by then and if i can go out for a spin to check if im able for ye then i'll be there too.

What sort of distance is it likely to be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭SomeFool

I'm pretty sure I'm working but should be free the weekend after or midweek if anyone fancies it.

I think initially we should keep it short to encourage any newer riders (far from a pro myself!) but we can decide on a route once we have a date/bodies to suit everyone.

Could potentially do midweek depending on work We might do weekend after too

    Any other takers?

I'm in Cork also and would be interested. I'm away this weekend and Sun 15th is out, there is a race on in Banteer. Mid week for summer might work.

Hi, I am new to the site. Just finished college in Cork last year, now living in killarney.
Looking to buy my first road bike in the next 2 weeks.
I'd definitely be up for this in the future.

    A) That won't be a problem I'll prob be slower and B) We'll be sticking together don't worry.
    Anyone here from Limerick?
MCOS over in the Tri forum is looking for some Limerick spins..

I suppose leaving from town is prob best ? I'm out in Carrigaline and I know HM is in Cobh. Where else are people from?

I bought my first road bike 2 days ago, a Trek 1.2.

I'll be up for a spin in the near future:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

    From Mallow.
Due to a possible injury (see pain in knee post yesterday) I may have to skip. Will go for a short spin Monday to see if readjusting saddle will improve the situation. I can drive to whereever anyway so does not matter where the start point is.

Blackrock myself but somewhere like the Cobh/Monkstown ferry might be a good place to meet depending on the route you pick.......gives you an option of east or west anyway:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Funkyzeit

Ok - shall we say the Cobh side of the ferry ? (it's free for bikes!) on Sunday morning?

Whose defo in and what time would you like to kick off at? (earlier the better for me)

Not free any more unfortunately - they started charging pedestrians and cyclists last Nov. €1 one way. I thought the guy was having a laugh the first day he asked me!

Not free this weekend unfortunately but hopefully I'll be able to make any future spin. Fare play to funkyzeit for getting the ball rolling though :)

I just got my first bike last week,
I took it out for my first spin on tue,
did 10 miles in just under an hour, that too slow to partake?
or has the idea died a slow death....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭crashoveroid

If you want to train with a group in Cork these guys go out every weekend http://stfinbarrscc.com/index.html

The spin is always a laugh and there is nearly always a coffee stop.
There is a mix of lesuire / Racing if anyone is interested

Saturday 10 am Meeting at entrance to WM O'Brien near Bandon roundabout, Bishopstown.

Sunday 10 am at the monument, Grand Parade, Cork city.

    Hi,
I have to give my knee a break (powering through the pain was not a good idea! :) so will be giving Sunday a miss this time. Hope a few do turn up as I would like to get a Cork boards group going.

As I say Tubes I'll be going out anyway so feel free to join me - even if you want to have a shorter spin we can arrange a route that will suit...

What time you thinking of going out?
what sort of distance were you planning on?

Sorry, I'll have to give it a miss, I'm not able for that sort of distance yet :o
and I wouldn't have you go on a shorted spin just to accomodate me!

There seemed to be lots of interest when you created the thread, not so much now tho, which is a pitty.

I do plan on doing some training and if ye do start something regular I'd come along, only when I'm able though.

Enjoy ur spin tomorrow, I hope others turn up!

Edit: Sorry for letting you down on such short notice.

    Hi all,

Is anyone familiar with the roads between nad and bweeng. Wondering as to the surface quality. Have covered the main roads but haven't cut cross country between the 2.

myself and a couple friends are heading out on saturday morning
from the Anglers Rest Pub at the city end of ballincollig.
Open invitation to anyone who wants to join us, especially if you are prepared to attach a tow rope if I get tired. :D

The 1st route (below) is the target but if feeling good we'll continue on to the longer one. Only just back in training so 2hrs 45min target for the first and 3hrs 45min for the 2nd. could be up to half an hour quicker on both if fit but thats the target for now.

    66km route

    93km route

There was a group of us heading out Saturday morning anyway so maybe I'll try to twist their arms to do this. I know for sure though that the 66 km route would suit them better for domestic reasons!

Btw, and in case you're not aware, if you change 'mapmyrun' to 'mapmyride' in those links you'll see the same thing only cycle-ified.

I could defo by up for this - again the 66k might be better as I'd be coming (and hopefully going back to) Carrigaline.

What time you thinking about heading?

provisionally 10am so back in time for lunch but could probably go 9am or 9.30, would have to check with the others.

Another route is to go to macroom via coachford and back the main road - flatter and much better road surface throughout

    http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/ireland/-cork/775123757376199523

should be easier on you given you have to go over carr's hill on the way home

That's way too late for me and my gang I'm afraid - we're mostly dads who have to get our round of 'new golf' out of the way early in the day.

Btw, there's pipe-laying at the moment between Dripsey and Coachford. The work is on the Cork-bound side of the road but there is lots of crap thrown up on the Macroom-bound side and also a stop/go system in place (to use an AA Roadwatch-ism).

Just cycled back to the city from Cobh and was charged for the first time in almost 7 years on the ferry. It was fortunate that I had money on me. Didn't ask for explanation, but does anyone know why foot passengers and cyclists are now being made to pay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Funkyzeit

Thanks to Ajk24, Albob and Nick for a great spin yesterday - nice conditions although was pretty knackered by the time I got back home.

Looking forward to the next boards spin...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭ajk24

You're welcome funky - not surprising you were knackered given you had an extra 50km to the rest of us. I'll head down your direction next time. Any luck finding the missing bottle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭albob

Yeah, good spin alright. Don't know who you managed to get home Funkyzeit. Def head out your way next time. I'll be driving to the meeting point though!

The tariff has always stated that cyclist and foot passengers pay. Business is now tighter particularly on the weekend, so pay we must. To be honest it is good value as it gives options on your cycle depnding on whether you are heading east or west.

I bought a 10 trip ticket. Can I find it now. No.
