Weights in the morning

Can anyone recommend a smoothie of some sort that would set me up well enough to do weights training in the morning?

While I've read that it's not the ideal time to be lifting, my timetable is kinda screwed up at the moment so it's really the only chance I'll have.

Does anyone else here train in the morning and if so have you got advice or comments on the pros/cons?

At the moment my biggest concern (besides actually waking up) is what to feed myself to get a decent session done.

I HATE eating just after I wake up.

    Cheers for your help

How long are you lifting sessions?

If they're less than an hour you could easy get away with a whey shake and a banana before and eat a fair bit (like a proper brekkie) after. If you eat well the night before you should have a good bit of fuel. It really depends - different strokes for different folks. Experiment around and if whatever you're doing feels good and you're making progress keep doing it. If not, refine and re-evaluate.

Training in the morning is always better than not training at all.

    Hi,

I weight train in the mornings starting at around 6am. I find a shake and banana to be sufficient to get me into the swing of my workout, provided I eat a decent meal in the evenings before going to bed. I tend to eat a bowl of muesli, a slice of wholemeal bread on top of another shake post-workout (around 8am). I feel pretty good after that.

I generally train in the morning, normally have a small bowel of muesli (Flahavan's seems pretty decent and low sugar), that said I then sit on a train for forty minutes so it has time to settle before I start lifting.

if you buy some milk protein, caisean (spelling all over the place)
it breaks down very slowly, so you can take the night before and takes around 6 hours to digest, so still bitta fuel in the tank.

any decent website will have it

I train in the mornings too, usually what i have is 100grams of Flahavans oats in 500ml's of low fat milk, throw a small scoop of flaxseed powder in and also one scoop of whey protein (this is all in a shaker btw, i dont bother microwaving oats anymore). Then i have a banana or even some maltodextrin if i have any at the time. Does the trick for me.

Used to Microwave the oats but found it took way too long for me to eat it in the mornings, the Flahavans raw oats are not as crunchy as other oats so its easy enough to throw a fair amount into a shaker and knock it back. Saves time.

Thanks to you all for the advice.

I actually ended up doing cardio this morning because I forgot to check if the gym was actually open. It is so I'll be heading out tomorrow morning.

So I guessing then that a decent sort of a shake with dose of protein and/or porridge about 40mins-1 hour before training should see me right?

Michael Cravez, could you (or anyone else) tell me what flaxseed powder is for?

Also, if I'm having protein before training should I be having more after too? I plan to get my normal porridge with honey and nuts for breakfast when I'm finished.

Are any of these circumstances changed if I'm not looking to add bulk?

(Again, I know there's a lot of noob questions here so I'm grateful for the time people are taking)

i think post workout shake should have slightly more protein but i dont think its that important, about flaxseed oil i think(emphasis on think here) its for good fats but not sure :)

Did a doubletake there, I thought it was me who started this thread for a second!

Flaxseed oil has healthly fats as I understand so worth considering. Healthy fats probably isn't the correct term, not sure quite how to explain it

Well it was definitely one of us Mike!

This is something that might be in the stickies but, since we're on the topic, how much protein should I be taking before and after? I'm 13 stone.
