You know the bridge from the Cathedral into town, when you walk over it and look to you right there is some big building being built called Born In Galway that looks out on the river, does anyone know what it is? ALso I think it's across from the school there. Sorry for not being too clear.

Hey, does anyone know the e-mail address for that new shopping centre that's going to be opening up - Born. I think you have to send them CVs through there? A quick google search did nothing.

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Merged. The advertiser says: "CVs can be e-mailed to jobs @ thebornstore . com"

was in the born store today - i have to say i was thoroughly impressed. the building is very pleasant to shop in - bright and superb views over the canal and river. the clothing range is mostly young and trendy and with 20% off sure i wouldve been crazy not to pick up a few bits!

anyone know if its open today
might go down and have a look

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,092 ✭✭✭pseudonym1

Have to say was slightly disappionted with ladies section. Suppose was anticipating something fabulous. It is a really lovely store but I had hoped the product would be little more exciting.. Mens is amaxing but ladies lacking The merchendising was a bit meh imo and the staff didnt seem very clued in or interested.

While well worth a look - cant see it surviving as a lot of the brands they do can be purchased much much cheaper on line and over heads will require massive turnover to sustain things.

But never the less hope they do.

I was in for a look yesterday, was expecting to see a few shops in there but its all the one. They have some nice stuff in there but I thought it was very expensive, saw a jacket that cost more than I make in a week and nothing special about the jacket either.

It looks like it sells clothes made out of pixie dust, or at least pure migraine. I don't see it lasting long. Although the shinysparklygirly demographic might lap it up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,160 ✭✭✭✭banshee_bones

What brands are they selling? is it just the one shop or more than one? is it all clothes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,779 ✭✭✭dmcg90

They sell Diesel and Jack and Jones I think, haven't been in but i'm imagining it's more of a concession style shop like Tempest up north.

I really like it! Spent some time in there today, wandered around upstairs and down.

I think the mens is brilliant, really well laid out, ample amount of clothing, LOVE The suits area. They view of the river and catherdral is amazing!
Real funky law out, cool gadgets, really reasonable prices.

The girls area is bright and girly, loads of clothes, very much the same, bows and frills, but are all really pretty, some cool Kate Moss tee's, really reasonable at €22.

I can't wait for the cafe to open, great views.

They have little furniture area, expanding I think, looks good.

It gets a thumbs up from me!!!!

i was in there the other day, they have nice stuff, but i think it could be doomed by the current economic situation and it being off the beaten path

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Anyone know what kind of prices they are charging for Mina? In Cork they sell it for far far more than they do online (no surprise there). Is it the same in Galway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 423 ✭✭Rayne

    I'm not 100% but they've Mina dresses AFAIK from €55 up €100.

Most of the clothes are similar to ASOS prices.

Def going to take a walk down there today! My friends are always buying stuff off asos! Think il dig out the credit card!!

Hmm must give this place a look, if only for the shop itself. Feedback from here seems that prices for product is way too high?? (Correct me if I took that up wrong) - No way i'm paying X price in store if I can get it for 50% of the price online, overheads or no overheads... I don't demand fancy new buildings when shopping

I would imagine that if this is the case it will be handy for trying on items before buying online.

I didn't want to be sounding like a cheapskate by saying this, but we think alike :D

Have done it before in Galway, but only after trying to even get a small discount in the shop. If an item in a shop is way more expensive than online, but i've tried it on in the store, i'll tell the assistant how much it can be gotten for elsewhere, and ask if even a small discount off the price tag can be gotten. If something can be done (even 5%) i'll usually buy it there and then, but if I get an ignorant face looking back at me... online I go!

I realise that shop assistants don't have the power to offer discounts, but I never ask "Can YOU give me a discount" I normally ask generally "Can any discount be offered off the price" - Don't be afraid to ask people, remember it costs nothing to ask. I realise shops have huge overheads, but if we (the customer) start kicking up a fuss, then maybe the shop owners will start to kick up a fuzz to the landlord, thus the possibility of reduced rent, hence reduced overheads

It's all a vicious circle

My favourite 2 brands of clothes are available in a shop near me. They sell some old stock and some new stock. The price in the shop is generally 50% more than the price of ordering online, even with delivery. Why should I support them?

I must go to this place next time I'm in Galway for a look, see what the mark-up is like.

In fairness i've no problem paying a little extra for anything in a bricks and morter shop - but TWICE the price than online

its up to 70% off and the first 200 people in the door get an extra 30% off the sale price. So if somehting was €100 with 70% off (making it €30) you would only pay €21, nice deal =D
