It looks like his show. The volume of posts here is so low, surely you do not begrudge him this? It is jazz related and the posts give specific information rather than blanket spam.

Blue Note records celebrates 75 years in existence so Smooth Jazz will feature Blue Note artists in a bank holiday special Monday 1st.June 2009 from 9 to 10.00pm.It was Alfred Lion who founded Blue Note records with his love of jazz shining through particularly in the labels purple period during the 50's and 60's.Rudy Van Gelder was a producer who successfully produced the sound that Lion required on many of the more successful Blue Note discs.

Thanks for all suggestions received.I have incorporated a few and will includes others in future shows.

    Hello
Nice to have met some of you in Cork during the jazz festival.
Various opinions as to the best concert but,in my humble opinion,it was the Monty Alexander,Kurt Elling double bill at the Everyman Palace on Saturday. For the party crowd The Roaring Forties and The Jive Aces gave great value.

Smooth Jazz next Monday has a ticket giveaway for the upcoming Melody Gardot Dublin Olympia concert.Three sets of tickets on offer so tune in for the details.Expect a couple of tracks from Melody's latest CD plus the usual gig guide.

Jimmy Saville presented a programme on Radio Luxembourg years ago on which a one minute excerpt was played from each single being promoted.

A listener has suggested a similar concept for Smooth Jazz with the rules requiring that no track beyond 2.5 minutes be played during the show.

I have trawled through my collection and come up with approx. 20 tracks which meet the intended criteria.

All will be revealed on 4FM's Smooth Jazz on Monday 16th.November from 9.04pm

    Hello
I know that you are all down after the drama unfold in Paris last night but, hopefully,Smooth Jazz can cheer you up somewhat.

On Monday 23rd.November I will refer you back to a previous world cup campaign when the BBC chose Puccini's Nessum Dorma as the theme music.I have a jazzy version from Don Byron while Jimmy Scott does a great reading of People Get Ready (appropriate for the times or what).

Austin Durack is based in Clare and does a great guitar rendition of Moondance - also for inclusion.

A Swedish band Ambassadeur do a great re vamp of It's Not Unusual and Midnight Cowboy and will form part of the musical line up.

The usual gig guide plus a couple more interesting artists like former Nuala Karen Egan complete the hour.

    Hi All
Wondering what I should play on next week's show.
My thoughts so far suggest some Australian jazz in the form of the Sandy Evans Trio with Sandy herself on sax.

Herbie Hancock recorded with Lisa Hennigan and Damien Rice.Would you like a sample?

Some warmth is surely needed in the form of latin jazz from Clark Terry and Chico O'Farrill.

An Irish artist is always welcome so Fintan O'Neill's Reverse Trust should fit the bill.

Shirley Bassey has a new CD The Performance but I would like a retro track this time. How about Kiss Me,Honey,Honey,Kiss Me.

    Any further thoughts?

    Hello Again
Hope you had a great St.Patrick Celebration and that this included some Smooth Jazz.

On Smooth Jazz Monday 22nd.March I will introduce Linda Presgrave to Irish audiences. She is a Missouri born New York based jazz pianist/composerr and I met her recently in the audience at JJ Smyths in Dublin. She was very impressed with Irish hospitality on her first Irish trip and would love to play here in the future.I will feature a thoughful track from her trio album on the show and hopefully stir some promoter into action.

Ella Fitzgerald and Honor Heffernan are noted for their sensitive interpretations of the great American songbook so it is nice to see that a singer has now emerged to do the same for it's modern equivalent.Babr Jungr is that lady - listen in for her unique look at the Neil Diamond composition I'm A Believer which was a hit for The Monkees. Her album is on the Naim Label.

Others to grace the company on Monday include Nina Simone,The Modern Jazz Quartet & The Mar-Keys.

I also have the inaugural album from Cork band Crossbones so expect a track from it also.

    Great stuff there ! :)

As for the Blue Note show, perhaps you could give some lesser known names an airing. For example Rick Margitza. He has a beautiful album on the Blue Note label called "Hope".

Here's "hoping" to hear a track from it on the night. ;)

Thanks for the post Rigsby.Unable to source a copy of the album you suggested but currently seeking another non Blue Note CD on which Rick appears.Hope to include soon.

The expected play list for Easter Monday is now available on www.4fm.ie on the presenter page.

    Happy Easter all!
