    Just saw this:

So, will we be charged 1 euro or 2 ??! What if I don't have any coins?!

Depends... I'd say €1 for a piss, €2 for a dump, and 20c per sheet of toilet paper.

Rip one out into the Dunnes plastic bag and leave her in the seat pocket.

They might get the message then.

Can't see them getting away with that.

so €1 for 1, €2 for 2, how much for membership of the mile high?

O'Leary said that on the BBC tv morning show this morning at around half seven.

And he did so, it appeared to us, firmly tongue in cheek.

They don't have seat pockets on Ryanair planes.

Liverpool St and many other stations around London charge, why wouldnt they get away with charging?

They should have an additional option,

    Fast Checkin? No
    Bags? No
    Insurance Required? No
Will you need to take a dump? Yes!

It's hardly 'discretionary' spending. "Will I bother? Naw...."

Maybe they could do a half-price dump offer if you buy a hot panini.

As you may or may not know, some of the newer Euro coins don't work well in the sweet machines. Thus, if you enter one of these coins into the machine, and it fails to work, do you
    a) piss against the door?
    b) sh|te against the door?
    c) mention to the flightcrew that you need to "drop the bomb", but the "friggin door won't open"?

One has options on the ground. On an aircraft one doesn't.

would you get free air miles for every dump deposited?

Who will be the first person to pay the €1 and then scrawl on the wall with permanant marker "How many €1 coins will it take to remove this?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 742 ✭✭✭Loco

They are doing it to cut the cost of flying for everyone.

Charging for bags -> Less bags on board -> lighter plane -> less fuel.

If everyone takes a dump before they board it will be cheaper for Ryanair!

In fairness , the mans a genius, at least once a month he has the news talking about Ryanair, not to mention the fact that if he did really introduce this, its definitely not going to stop people taking the cheap airline option! I wouldnt be surprised if it was him that was making those replies in that blog incident the other day.

He likes the free advertising alright, he has always been frugal.

Yup :) To be fair, he blew the cardboard cut out presenters away.

He said the toilet thing with a big smirk on his face and even though the interview was set up as an attack on Ryanair's baggage policies, it ended up being a showreel for O'Leary to continually say just how much cheaper Ryanair were, that they were dedicated to lowering prices, that Heathrow was a joke and that BA were raising prices again.

They couldn't have bought better advertising.

O'Leary is a legend, the Brits must think he is bonkers altogether. He gleefully ran rings around the BBC breakfast news live this morning and by the time it hit the BBC news at one o'clock, the main feature of the story was not of closed check-in desks but of Ryanair thinking about 'charging a pound to spend a penny', complete with an analyst commentary piece on the feasability of such an endeavour.

He clearly was taking the mick about charging for toilets this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭peter1892

For anyone that didn't see the interview, it's on this page:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7914542.stm

his reaction to the question at 40 seconds is brilliant ;)

(and I'll admit that I'm no Ryanair/MOL fan but it made me laugh!)

I think it's bull. THere's no such thing as bad publicity.

MOL charges €5 for a Number1 & €5 4 Number 2, then what is he charging for Number 3? Will his prices rise with inflation, or a case of Spend more, payless!!!!!!

They only charge at the stations, they have toilets on most of the trains.

Next step (Obviously satire, and not a dig at Ryanair directly) :

imagine, you pay the airport shop €2.50 for your water after you have checked in through security. you avoid coffee shops entirely. Will the piss you take whilst in your seat (a male writing) into the bottle be greater or lesser in volume than the water purchased.Experiment at home to find this out before travelling. An extra empty plastic bottle should be brought through security just in case, perhaps?
Should Equality legislation cover this obvious disadvantage now to be suffered by females onboard. Will there be a cleanup charge levied by Ryanair for those whose credit card is declined by their Credit card company?
Is there some type of pill which will have the opposite effect on the kidneys to coffee?
Finally, will it be more comfortable to fly Aer Lingus or other carriers as the seats might be dry or not soiled as badly. Hope all this is still tongue -in -cheek instead of clenched cheeks!

Ryanair will not be charging their customers the €10 travel tax. :) I bet you no one will make a thread or say anything positive about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,941 ✭✭✭pclancy

This is insane. I cannot believe they're actually going to do it. So everyone has to have a credit card in their hand to go for a pee? What about elderly, disabled passengers, kids......WTF?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,281 ✭✭✭Stevek101

It won't happen. At least not for a very long time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,779 ✭✭✭Carawaystick

There was an article by a doc in the IT a while ago stating that a person could die from a ruptured bladder, so a wet seat for the next passenger or a bodybag carrying passengers off seem the way forward for FR...
Maybe they'll let all their passengers pay an increased insurance levy to cover this or maybe their insurance company will strongarm them into avoiding this.

I've checked the prices their sales no longer include the €10 tax on the way out. Now that is a big saving. It'll at least get you a few shots of the bathroom ;)

I've been checking flights the last few days, that is only applied to the "NO TAXES" flights available, the "SPECIAL OFFER" flights are the same price (€7) but they are charging the €10 out of Ireland...funnily enough they aren't charging the UK's £5 tax on either...;)

That article also says they are absorbing the tax at a cost of €70m, how can that be the case unless they are paying the tax for 7m passengers. Surely that means nobody should be paying the €10?

It'll be on all flights don't worry. They expect to fly 7m people this year.

Steve, you may be missing the point I'm making: The flights I have checked include the €10 tax ex-Dublin. They are at the start of May, and are not available as sale fares because they are one of the blackout periods.

    DUB-STN 2nd May:

    €7 flight
    €10 tax

    STN-DUB 2nd May

    €7 flight
    €0 tax

I've also checked flights in June and July and all ex-Dublin flights have the €10 tax.

This morning he claimed it was a big PR stunt. See

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0307/1224242448956.html

However, if you read the article, he seems to state that Boeing's inability to provide a mechanism to accept coins on a toilet door in an aircraft and EU law prevent him from doing it. That would lead me to believe that it was not a PR stunt but something he had seriously considered which turned out to be neither mechanically nor legally feasible and, with the tide of public opinion turning heavily against him, he decided to pretend it was a stunt. Let's face it, with Ryanair's attack on that blogger last week and now this, he may have to simmer down although that is unlikely. Personally, I try to find any other company going to where I want to go and if it is around the same price as Ryanair, I will book that instead as Ryanair are really starting to completely pull the piss these days.

Oh no I understand what you are getting at but it seems to only applied to sale fares at the moment. It will be every fare... I'd say that's why there hasn't been an official announcement posted on the site yet.

With all due respect, I'll give credit where it's due...and it ain't due until they absorb the tax fully.
