Can anyone tell me what makes a good dating site worth paying a subcription for..or are they not worth a toss ?

yeah I know what you are talking about - used a couple years ago and the women I met were very keen on gettin down to it within the first date or two. Made me wonder if they were all just hornbags lookin for a jump or if there was any genuine women on them. Although having said that, I did meet some very genuine women on a couple of them. I think there are enough around at the moment that are either very cheap or free so I wouldn't go paying for one. Have you tried Facebook either? That is good for weeding out nutters and getting to know someone for a while before meeting them..

see the idea that people pay for the sites gives a bit of hope that people on them might be a bit more serious than the loons on a social network free sites.............they could be as bad as the moderators here ( thats a joke don,t go getting all uptight again moderator ,,,,,,,,,,,,)

yep that would seem logical but in my experience it doesn't always pan out that way. I suppose you could always just cast your net wide and pay for one and be on a few free ones too?
I was on 2 about 7 or 8 years ago - MF and (can't even remember the name of the other one).
You may not meet the right person but you'll definitely have some fun for a while. After a few months of it though I decided against meeting people off them cos it was too much effort sorting out who was for real from who was a bit odd or was lying about something or hiding something etc..

Then again - you may actually meet the right person, it seems a lot of people do. I would say it's worth spending around the 30 quid mark, spend about 3 months on a site and then you'll have seen enough to know whether you could be bothered or not.

One thing I found really weird was on MF - it seems it has a huge group of men and women who hang out together as part of the "MF Gang" and have no interest in dating; only hanging out and 'accepting' new people into the folds. One girl I met said she had no interest in meeting anyone, yet there she was having accepted a date from me and sitting drinking the beer I had bought her. I explained that actually I did want to meet someone but she just looked blankly at me. They often organised non dating events it seemed - which I for one found confusing cos that's the attraction of a dating site - no looking for a wedding ring, hints to see if there's a boyfriend etc.. (although tbh you still need to do that on those sites too)

being able to see who's online now so you can figure out if they are not responding to you then they are def not interested as opposed to just not on the site at the moment

an indicator of the last time they were on (see above)

an indicator of how far away from you they live

an indicator of what they are looking for - friendship/dating/marriage etc..
This can help sort out who's either too frivolous or too serious for your situation..

I think they are all pretty much the same after that. I think you should concentrate more on which ads to invest your time in responding to rather than which site to use. That Plenty of Fish one rings a bell..
Once you see a pic of the girl and get to the point of swapping emails instead of having to log back on through the site you are laughing.

Oh and I suppose it would be best to pick a well known one so there are more people on it..

yeah i keep saying any of the free or so called social networking sites have got to attract all the nut jobs..i know we are in a recession but honest the cost of a year on some of these sites is no more than a good night out or if you arranged to meet a nut job off a free site might be a very bad night out..........and a few days trying to say sorry to everyone .
so not been snobbish but am looking for a good pay dating site not a porn or swingers site fed up of worthless evening out in club etc

nah, the paid sites are just for the real dedicated nutjobs.

ya see there are nutjobs who are a bit odd in the head like myself and want to meet a beour but are having problems because they are a bit of a nutjob so they go on these free sites but aren't really all that keen and can live without it.

think you still not with me....your more concerned about the money... do you gop to clubs etc do they charge an enterence fee and hike up the drinks prices is that not same desperation...or perhaps the idea of chatting one to one away from the heard is a bit scary ...but i think we are on opposite sides on this..to me its anything but desperation and if you look at the membership numbers on some of these pay sites there is a reason people use them or perhaps all of them are desperate and you are the lucky one

and cheeper car insurance hmmm does their hands not start to shake from the pressure backing up and reaction time must be brutal......i mean could you imagine them trying a hill start feck no quick release available

ok since this add started i visited a few of the free one mentioned above...and guys while i have not yet checked out an 1rish paid ones i checked out an Asian paid site ,it was total difference in concepts ,it seems people who pay are the genuine very small percentage that actually use this medium seriously. On the free sites hmm..its full of loons and and sure mary from ballydung was really yer man and his brother

Maybefriends was the one I remember most for NSA fun and games - there was another I can't remember the name of. But to be honest - facebook is really easy for the same kind of thing and it's free..

I've used a few of them over the years. There are a lot of weirdo's (female) out there. Don't know anything about the male ones. For the most part, I've found the irish ones quite crap. I've had one or two nice dates out of roughly a dozen. The other dates i've happily forgotten.

One thing worth noting is that these sites are great for meeting foreign women living in Ireland, and they tend to be more successful, and without any danger signs.

These sites come into their own though in other countries. I used a few of them in Australia and loads of success. Same with China, and Japan. Didn't meet any weirdo's while abroad.

Word of warning. The free sites fake a lot of adverts just to rope guys into signing up. Even the paid sites do this. Its just a matter of having patience and sifting through the bull****. I find its a fun way of passing time on a Sunday night when i have nothing else to do.
