Ideally no, you shouldn't eat them. The human body evolved without these food stuffs and operates better without them.

Hi Colm, thanks for the reply and also all the other info you post here. Crossfit looks very interesting and tough, one day i'll have a crack of it when i'm not a novice anymore.

    Oh no you didn't.

Human evolution and the ability of our body to digest foods are not intrinsically linked. The basic biochemical processes that we (and countless other higher complex animals share) has evolved in such a way that it can cope with an awful lot of junk getting thrown at it on a daily basis.

What it does struggle with however is an excess of anything, be it fats, carbs or proteins. OP, eat your spuds, rice and pasta, but eat them moderately (ideally no more than a quarter - one third of any meal; the rest can be made up of protein, fats and plenty of veg). Generally speaking many people lose fat easier when they reduce carbs in their diet, but there's no need to eliminate them entirely.

As G'em said, reduce, but you dont have to cut out completely

Also, make sure any carbs you eat are the healthy kinds

No white pasta / rice, instead use Wholewheat Pasta and Brown Rice

When I'm tryin to lose fat my meals are usually 40/40/20% Meat/Veg/Carbs, sometimes no carbs at all

    mix it up!

True but I have to say I prefer Colm's approach.
Just because your body can deal with it does not mean it should either. :pac:

Absolutely, your body can deal with having so little carbs in the diet that it invokes a ketogenic reaction, but that doesn't mean it should. That was my point - everything in moderation.

like others have said they are ok in moderation .. I have found the more active someone is the more they can have .. If you can you should totally elimate white pasta and bread .. the wholegrain versions are much nicer once you get used to them ... One large potato is grand with dinner but 4 or 5 wont do you any favours ... You should also try to eat pasta / rice / bread after a strenous exercise session as they are less likely to be converted to fat ..

What are the Veg? Are they not carbohydrate? Is fruit not carbohydrate?

    Look at www.robbwolf.com and www.proteinpower.com/drmike/

Both very knowledgeable (nerdy) on the subjects of diet.

If you are going to eat simple carbs, it might be best to save them for after a workout, when they will go to better use.
