After Hoursies....after watching tv on a plasma screen i was just wondering how you's have upgraded and dealt with new technologies..

ie are all your tv's plasmas or do you have a few of those massive square ones like i do in some rooms in the house?

Do you still listen to a few tunes on your walk man or is it just an ipod these days?

anyone still using dial internet out there?

is everyone caught up in xbox's and nintendo wii's or does anyone still whip out their gameboy or snes?

think in are house its a bit inbetween, a bit past and present going on if you know what i mean!

    what about you's???

I still have one foot in the past(better than the grave i suppose!)

4 yr old "big box" tv in sitting room with sat tv, video/dvd recorder, hifi with usb/cd/dvd function and a cordless phone lol

15" lcd tv in bedroom (with indoor aerial), dvd player, video, wii, playstation 1,and wall hanging stereo with a cassette function:eek: and a corded phone!
Have a couple of personal cd players and cassette players around somewhere also, though i use one of 2 mp3 players.

PC is windows 2000, but in 2 weeks i'll finally have my eeepc 904ha with XP!

I tend to keep things till they break! Though i still have a cambridge z88 which i was given years ago which bit the dust long ago!

Had nothing but dial up when in Ireland but my Mam tells me they have wireless internet now. CRT telly is used for playing the odd Wii game and using for the old consoles I have, LCD in the main room. Cheap MP3 player, no frills just what I want. (generic-ey brand)

Two 42" plasmas in the front room between three of us living here. For some reason it never occurred to us that two TVs of the same model in the same room might cause a certain problem with remote controls... *sigh*

The only thing bleeding on the bleeding edge of technology is your wallet :(

I'm up to date with the recession and the reason that this "look at all the stuff I have as a status symbol" is one of the many reasons why we're just useless sheep.

    Misanthropy. It has many uses.

But technology. I do think that our generation are going to be the first ol fogies who will be able to cope with anything that comes our way. Unless my rheumatic hand misses the touch screen remote and accidentally flicks on some dirty scheisse pron while the grandkids are over. That'll learn em.

Will be buying a 32" - 37" LCD TV soon to replace the poxy CRT in the flat I moved into a few months ago, aiming for 37" ideally to make full use of 1080p pictures.
I'm all iPoded up, have a new phone, laptop etc... Haven't even touched an audio cassette since 2002:p
As far as DJing goes, I'm fairly ahead in some aspects, but still not on the bleeding edge - Pioneer DJM800 + Ableton + CDs
Stopped buying vinyl a couple of years ago and moved with the times

get some polaroid film out of an old calculator or laptop screen

you'll need 4 pieces , put on the IR sensor on the TV's and on the remotes, provided one set are horixontal and the other are veritcal then each remote will only operate one TV when you hold it flat, when you tilt it so it's vertical it will operate the other TV

but that involves tilting one vertical. people can't deal with such an inconvenience these days.

if this guy invited a beour to his house all she would remember is having to tilt the remote and that the guy is therefore a weirdo who can't be trusted

I'm not one for gettin the latest gizmos for the sake of it or anything like that.

Telly; Old big thing that I bought for 100 notes.

    Car fleet; '98 Scorpio, '94 Mazda 626, '74 Rover V8(Rumbly!)

PC; Have laptop & broadband. (40th birthday present frm Mrs Whosbetter?)

Clothes; Mostly from the 90s. (I know a good Seamstress)

    Alarm; I'm not alarmed...

Music; Still have loadsa cassettes 'n LPs. Got into CDs recently...

Still, met the Missus thru the Net years ago & produced one of the first 'cyberbabies'.

So I use the 'new fangled stuff' where it's needed really.;)

Finland has already switched to digital tv transmissions last year (no more analogue there), so moving home was a downgrade in that respect but at least I have a new LCD tv here. I have a fast wireless broadband connection here but in general Ireland is a little behind for broadband too.
I broke my laptop so I'm on an 8 year old pc which has been souped up with more RAM and an NIC :( I'm not big into games so I don't have a console at the moment. My MP3 player is 1 Gb Pacard Bell, bought it about 3 years ago.I don't normally try to buy fancy phones but I recently swtiched to bill-pay so now I have a nice Nokia 6500 (or at least I think thats its number).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

I don't upgrade unless I have to. Investing in a larger TV than the small box shaped one I have now would be a waste as I rarely use the TV.

I don't have any of that portable MP3 player crap. The latest technology is generally a load of expensive bollox crammed with half assed features that seem very situational to me.
