Games for Airsofters as a comunity?

Just a spin off from the thread aboput "Combat Arms" which looks quite good TBH only for the reports of epic hacking.

Awhile back there was an online game called airsoft warzone, we all got mad into it as a comunity, and royally powned all comers.
There was much anticipation of a new game but it never happened.

Considering we all chat on boards, know each other in real life, and chat on the irc and other fora, maybe it would be good to find another game?

I know for myself, its very frustrating not to get out to games of actual airsoft very often, lack of transport and boots make it a bit of a pain! And with a degree to get, weekends often end up being just study.

I put it to yez that we find a new game, and have a go as a comunity and get into it.

Preferably online and/or free, I dont have xbox live or any of that jazz, but I do have college computers.

    Any suggestions, input, ideas?

    World of W....

    Oh wait.

I'll get shot down for this, but CSS. It can be lots of fun, everybody can run it(Unless your machine is like 10 years old), its cheap as chips(Like 15-20 USD). Any of us could host it(my fair usage policy means that I should be ok as long as we dont do a weeklong marathon). We could set up a Teamspeak(TS) channel or we could set "alltalk" in game.

Also, as you said, different people have different consoles but most will have a PC if they're on here(bar those mac users :p).

The alternative, give keith a months rations and a copy of Flash CS3 Pro:D

If its a small game, most people could run it off a usb stick?

    2gb or so?

I think I can do that, and DrP and Keith etc. all know how to make servers serve us with internets.

    Best suggestion so far.

Hmm, ye kinda need an ok pc to play those right?

Maybe suggest something proper like battlefield etc., but also something less demanding like a browser based thing or older game.

I don't want to say, it has to be a crap game, but suggestions for high and low end users would help I think.

Have something like awz or css, and a bigger latest game also for those who can use it.

Yeah, you can get a bundle with CSS and DODS which is brilliant value. DODs is low spec too as its the same engine. The advantage is a load more teamwork though. eg: Support gunners cannot get anywhere without protection, the MG32s etc are useless unless deployed :)

BTW CSS, DODs and loads others run off the steam client. www.steampowered.com . Some people hate steam, why I dont know but I find them brilliant. US prices:D And no more loosing disks.

love the game still playing it :)

and been playing dod since 1.3b with original HL

    dod sounds good so far.

Anything with an rpg, collect the gold/dollars element?

It would be nice to get competition on a large scale with clans etc.

Seeing how addicted and many we are, we'd do quite well :)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

It was a mod for RtCW back in the day, turned the already great multiplayer into one of the best FPS multiplayer games I have ever played. We used to run LAN games of it every week in college and the game was always at capacity, such was it's universal popularity.
It's WW2 set, but most of the missions come from WW2 movies rather than re-enacting events. For example, one map called "Gold Rush" was basically a playable version of Kelly's Heroes, and one, who's name escapes me, was based on The Guns of Navaronne.

It's easy to get into but if you can communicate properly to each other through TeamSpeak or some such (we just used to shout at each other in the LAN) it becomes a real challenge. For example, you can get an 81mm mortar as a primary weapon, but you need a Lieutenant class buddy with you to sight the rounds in for you (he has binoculars), and a good medic class player makes a big difference in the games too, as you can be healed on the ground or go to respawn (exactly the same as you would have in a scenario/milsim skirmish actually).

Oh, I forgot to mention the best bit. It's a free download now, it works on even the most basic computer, uses sod all bandwidth and the entire file is a mere 264Mb in size. I know it's not an RPG, but we were playing it for years and never got tired of it so it might be worth a go.

Ah ET, i must say i do love this game and some campaigns would be ideal .

they placed a webfilter on the pc's at fás so i stuck a copy of this on every pc and weve been playing it most days since, plenty of mods and stuff too.

quake 3 would be another good one, based on the same engine, a plus side would be that i could play against you lot through my dreamcast :D

Is there a way to shout at you all when Im shooting at you?

Can you mod it for box magged stubbies?

Download started, but I nominate COD4 on the 360. I know for a fact that Lethal_bullet plays and I was playing a game with DisasterIRL on the same team(deadly sniper, the guy had 49 kills in one round as a sniper). I am sure a lot of other people play cod on the 360. My gamertag is HomemadeDread.

    For me The Best are

    - Battlefield2 about 10-15 €
    - Battlefield 2 Mod Operation Peacekeeper FREE
    - Battlefield 2 Mod Point of Existance FREE
    - Combat Arms - Online FPS with a lot of Arms that could be modified - FREE

They all run on a 2-3 year old computer

Not a bad game, was just playing for about 2 hours, (Combat arms)
But some poop has my on line name.

The main idea, if I read Stercus correctly in his original post, is to have a fun, free pc-based game that would be easy to get into, small enough to be brought from computer to computer via memory stick and that won't need massive amounts of power to run. That's why I said RTCW:ET would be a good option. While not everyone has a console, or a Live subscription for that matter, everyone has some sort of pc or laptop (if you didn't, you wouldn't be reading this). RTCW:ET will work on even the most basic college library or old home computer so it's accessible to everyone instantly. Games like COD have players from PS3, 360 and PC platforms, none of which are compatible with each other (unless something had changed that I didn't hear about) so you'll only get small groups of players.

The old Airsoft Warzone game was popular because it was free, fun and anyone could use it. ET follows roughly the same path, though I'm sure there are others that are just as free of heavy system requirements, like Day of Defeat (original version, not Source) or Unreal Tournament (original '99 version). Plus, even people on rubbish lines can play these, where they couldn't play others (many's the night I spent cursing my connection during a good game of CoH or BF2142), as well as the most basic ten year old Dell Optiplex office computer.

I only started playing this one a few days ago. Quite interesting in that you can play it as a city sim or as an attacking alliance.

    http://kingsage.org/

World 2 only started a week ago so the game is still in its early stages and I am on it :). A good clan with active players can clean up and set up a strong alliance.

Few minutes every now and again is all thats needed and its browser based + free.

If enough people are up for it I will leave my alliance and set up a new one. Part of the alliance system includes private forum and such.

    Battlefield 2

Cost you **** all doe now.
One of the most tactical fps games out there that really works with team work. A really good game.

    Counter Strike 1.6

Old school game, its where online fps was really born ( after quake obviously) It is a tactical 5v5 shooter, but tbh, one strong player can turn a game. Its a free client and still today one of the best game sonline.

    Counter Strike Source

Modern spin on 1.6, looks better, play is slower and I dont think it is as good.

    World of Warcraft

You wont find a better online game imo that promotes socialising, team work and just general fun. You get 10 guys from here, theres a guild and you can just have so much fun. Problem is it takes a **** load of time to level characters high, and people like me, wont sacrifice our level 80 chars to start again.

    Day of defeat

Came close to defeating counter strrike, for about a month. World war 2 counter strike mod essentially, very high skilled game, not much team work involved but a good shooter.

    Quake 3

Freely available online now, and the original daddy of online games. Serious fun to play and easy to pick up, hard to master.

    Company of heros

New breed of rTs, with flashy graphics, serious unit choice and seriously promotes teamwork. Requires alot of time to become skilled at

    Warcraft 3

Brought comeptitive RTs gaming to Europe. Shortly arrived after Starcraft, this game is easy to pick up and play, a whore to master.

    COD4

The best looking and best feeling game in the list really, looks gorgous plays beautifully really fun game. Requires a beefy pc to play high spec but great fun.

Theres a serious amount you could play, most now are seriously low cost. I am up for anything really. Granted I do not have much time due to world of warcraft ( back end game raiding again) but I'm still up for anything.

There was actually talk last night between myself and a very famous person in the irish gaming scene, about an Airsoft Gaming Lan, most airsofters play games, might be good fun.

I take credit for introducing all of ye to awz! Personally i'd go for cod4 i love that havent played online in ages though

I like the look of Kiwi's Kingsage - looks like it could be fun.

I'm particularly drawn to Dex's idea though - RTCW was excellent.

I'll check out the feasibility properly on Monday, but I see no reason why I can't host a full-time RTCW server on one of the Eirsoft dedicated boxes we have.

If enough people are interested, I'll set it up next week for a trial period of a few weeks, and if it takes off, I'll leave it up as long as its used.

kingsage is good can get a little boring and takes a good bit of time.(i think im on world one but think ill move to a better world with less strong citys around me!!!!) But as for RTCW used to love that game and the idea of a irish server would be great, there should be a few teamspeaks out there that are left idle, will have a quick hunt about for one.

maybe we call all just hi-jack tonys shop with computers and have a big lan party..im sure someone out there can find a way to turn airsoft guns into mice.... right?

Wow this thread is going way off topic with lan parties and such. But on that note here at the Warehouse we are big gamers and have a large changing area that we could use for a Lan. Hmmm this could be interesting.

Could be a nice little side attraction. For some reason, a lot of Airsofters seem to be Vid Game heads or at least have an interest. I started years ago with CW & progressed to Doom & Quake & on from there.
