Protein. You can't build muscle without it.

    Creatine is optional.

Absolutely totally agree. Everyone needs protein and very few people really get enough in their diet. You get most of your creatine from your food, and not everyone needs or responds to it.

Buy some good quality whey and make a shake immediately after lifting.

Noes to the creatine, water retention ftl :(

If i was stuck on an island, the one thing i'd bring with me would be 5lbs or whey protein.

    That or porn

    Who knows?

With enough protein, your imagination will do instead of the porn.....

Anyone know the macros of semen?

You're only starting out so get your diet in order and stick to protein. Give it a few months then look into other supplements

Creatine Ethyl Ester doesn't cause excessive water retention...allegedly

I've never found water weight a problem with any creatine products to be honest. Find it works a treat but then again everyone responds differently..

OP, just eat plenty of good food. If you want protein, get whey, and take it after training. Also in the morning, as you've been deprived of protein during the night.

    No need for creatine yet.

I'd bring 10lbs of whey protein.

simple answer. dont waste your money on either.

Well in the vast majority of case's I'd say your right, but the OP might just be getting enough protein from his/her diet already.

But yea, the OP doesn't sound like they're training hard enough to be supplimenting even a modest diet.

    Blasphemy!

Protein is nearly essential in a weightlifting diet. You need quick protein after a workout and it's handier (and cheaper) to bring a protein shake rather than a breast of chicken.

    Or so i thought.

Can I ask a question too while you're all here?
As a female who goes to the gym 3 x a week running 3 x a week, I want to add a fair bit of muscle, I'm also a vegetarian, would you recommend me taking a protein supplement also?

Yes. Most meat eaters get plenty of protein their normal diet, and only need to supplement if they are doing something extra like lifting weights. A vegetarian has to work harder to get the protein in, and if she is lifting weights as well, then a supplement is almost essential.

To build muscle, I'd suggest you aim at 1g of protein per pound of body weight (so if you weight ten stone, then 140g of protein a day). You can use Fitday to work out how much you are getting from your diet, then take whey to make up the difference.
