Delorentos split?

    From their website
    We've got some sad news.
It's with a very heavy heart that we have to let you know that Ronan has decided to leave the band. He feels its best for him to move on and do other things. The three of us will still be making music and will let you know about what happens next.
As our songs always came from the four of us playing together we've also decided that it wouldn't feel right to continue "delorentos" without him.
We're all very proud of the songs we've written over the last year, we feel they're some of the best we've ever done, and as a result we're determined not to discard them or let them go.
Next month, the four of us are going to record this album together and plan on making it something we'll all be proud of. It'll be our last collection of songs as delorentos, and we hope you'll like them.
We want to thank everyone that's supported us since we started, we'd never have gotten this far without you. We hope to play a gig or two to say goodbye.

So they are saying the next album is going to be their last because Ronan left. Boooo. I was really getting into them . I saw them a while back and they really impressed me.

Ah crap I spelt the name/title wrong. Mods can ya fix this please.

absolutely sickening news. stunning band have seen them five or six times live and i consider them to be my fave irish band.....unbelievablelive, so its time to get to all the farewell gigs!!!

new album seems to be decent played a few at the summer gigs last year and they sounded good so heres hoping....in love with detail was an absoulte masterpiece of an album but without the four members together, and with no disrespect to ciaran the other vocalist, ro tends to bring something special. nothin could beat any other way as a gig opener.

    Delo's RIP

    :S Cripes that is disappointing.

I don't mean to dance on their freshly-dug grave, but they were pretty average. I saw them play a couple of times and was more-or-less entertained, but I wouldn't pay to see them again.

I'm surprised that people would actually give a monkey's about the Delorentos splitting up. They always seemed like your typically generic and adequately sufficient rock-by-numbers band to me.

catchy melodies sung with gusto imo. I bought their album, sad to hear the news, but lucky enough to have seen them a hand full of times. Never really understood some of the songs tho...Terrible news.

I just left my band too, wonder if the 3 of em are looking for another guitarist :D

Shiit...thats so weird. Cant believe i dont get to see em live again.

Also I can see why people would be sad about the split, they were a really interesting charismatic band live and theyre song were mad catchy. Had theyre album on repeat for months. Charming guys too!

Ah they'll still be around just under anothe guise. Yeah its disappointing that one of them is leaving, but thats life.

Agreed, while Kieran's songs were more immediately catchy they can't compare lyrically to Ro's. He was in a whole other league, and his vocals were just heartbreaking at times. Really passionate performer hope he continues on in music in some way.

Hope they all do well in the future in whatever they decide to do.

One of the few good Irish pop bands gone then. Its a pity, in love with detail was a decent album & they were pretty good live too.

Have to say I'm very disappointed, used to love them. Heard them for the first time as support in Marley Park a few years back and then at a festival last year, both they were brillaint. Look forward to the album and also to getting to one of their final gigs.:(

I listened to in love with detail, and to be honest i thought it was one of the must stunningly average, forgettable albums i had heard in a long time. Sure its a shame they split up, but its no loss really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

don't really care. they were alright, saw them a few times but I'm not really bothered that they're splitting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Lorr

Even if you weren't a fan you can't deny they had a lot more talent than the Blizzards or Coronas...shame one or both of them didn't split instead.

Having more talent than the Blizzards or the Coronas is the very definition of damning someone with faint praise...

I was upset to hear they broke up, I dont understand why.. theyre music was kickin.

I think lead singer Ronan leaving is like Ronan Keating leaving, maybe all the buzz has gone to his head and he wants to go solo.

That's how I'd relate to what I heard of their work. Best of Luck to them though, at least they're going at it.

I imagine it would be hard enough to get motivated into recording a new album when you plan to split up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭bythewoods

Ah, I was really disappointed to hear they were splitting up.

Personally, I was a massive delorent-ho, so the news shocked me to the very core!
They were a great band. I'll accept that they weren't the most awe-inspiring thing to happen to the industry for the last decade or anything, but they were still brilliant.
I went to see them about 20 times (Give or take) and I have to say their gigs were some of the greatest experiences ever. Really great stuff.
Also, the lads themselves are absolutely lovely. Everytime I've met them they've all just been the soundest chaps ever, genuinely very nice.
I had the album on repeat for months, and it's not something I could get sick of too easily.

I think it's a massive loss to the Irish music scene, now what have we left? The freakin' Coronas? Bah, kill me.

    Sniff, Delos RIP.

yeah they're better than the coronas and the blizzards but they were still fairly ****

Haha, yeah. Leave me alone, I did love them ever so much.

    Aw noway!!!

What a waste, they were actually pretty good :(

+1 Wednesday the 17th June would suit nicely, leaving over on the Monday, Tuesday hangover recovery and Wednesday the Delos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Lorr

Then would do nicely alright, exams for me in April/May which is when album out so hoping they leave it a few weeks. Should also have a bit more money by June! Here's hoping album takes longer than they expect to record! Seems very optimistic of them to have it out so fast...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭bythewoods

They said they would do a goodbye gig, or possibly gigs... so I'm sure they'll stick to their word on that one.
Better not be around the LC time though, that would actually suck so much. I'm already repeating, can't repeat again!!

Time to rip out my Delorent-ho tshirt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Lorr

Forget a tshirt get Delorent-ho tattooed on yourself! Wheres your dedication?!

Does anyone else not find the way they broke up a bit weird?

It is only one guy leaving isn't it? I believe they plan to continue to record.

Well one left and the other 3 are continuing together under another name and different music. The way he left and their actions after just seem a little strange to me. Also the timing of it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 ✭✭✭PaulBrewer

    Why the timing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Lorr

Well they seem like such perfectionists, the amount of time they spent perfecting the first album and the amount of time they've been writing this one show that. If he's decided to leave then fair enough, but why rush the release of the album? Why not go out putting everything they have into this and spend the time on it that it deserves? Its coming out in April/May and considering they said they were going to start recording now seems very fast to me. And if he's leaving for economic reasons like a lot of newspapers etc are saying then why doesn't he just wait to see how this album is received? It could open a lot of door for them. Just seems like he's getting away as fast as possible. I'm not sure if any of that made sense to you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 ✭✭✭PaulBrewer

    Not much! ;)

Ha, I tattooed (with eyeliner..) Delorent-ho on my arm before a performance of their's once upon a time... Got myself into Hot Press for it and all. How shameful.

I found it kind of weird as well. Like, "we're breaking up, but we're still going to record the album and do gigs?" WTF.
Although, there were signs that it was coming. They blogged ages ago about their record deal that fell through...

I just find it odd that they didn't do it then, like why wait so many more months? And then go and record an album that they won't actually make money off if they're hardly touring...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,980 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

They finally listed some gigs (possibly their last ever ones?)
    May 8th, Waterford, Electric Avenue

Its pretty cool that they're back together as they seem to have quite the fan base. Someone here said that they were better then the coronas and the blizzards; I'd put them all on the same page.
Heres hoping that the recession brings out some kicking new talent!

They've had a change of heart and are not splitting. Well that's what I heard anyway. And everything you read on the internet is true...right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 105 ✭✭Bren Jacob

Their manager was one of the guest speakers at the immf last week and he confirmed that they were definitally back in the game.
The full story is on theirspace page anyway.

Was hoping to see them myself, can't go Friday as it's my Grad night and can't see me functioning enough to go on Saturday.

As for their live show they're brillaint, seen them twice live, once in open air and once in a festival tent, but all in all they're quality live.
