came out of my house this morning to find this.

    its a serious pain.
I have to ask my neighbor to the right to move his car. so I can reverse out at an angle.

Called the Garda. they don't want to know.

In fairness can you not reverse out at an angle to get by?
It doesn't look like the car is much over the point where the kerb lowers

as much as i hate bad parking calling the gardai is not going to solve anything.

jesus christ they have better things to do.

    Aye

that's what I had to do
but I means asking my neighbor to the right to move his car. he always parks it on the road. their gardens are narrow and he parks his car close as possible to the piller on the right hand side (when come out of my house).

Add to that the people parking across the road and it becomes a real pain to get out.

And on top of all that my car has the turning circle of a small bus.

This seems to have gotten a lot worse since Irish rail started charging for parking spaces at their train stations.

FYI this fella wasn't the worse parker in the world. some have been almost 3 foot covering the driveway

Obviously not. Check out all the damage on the pillar. :D

Does your neighbour not have their own driveway?

    Neighbor to the right does

but his people carrier doesn't fit into the narrow driveway.

the fella blocking the drive has left his car there on hopped on the train to work.

    RE: calling the Garda.

Raheny Garda have very little to do mate, or do very little. that's just my opinion but I'm not going to get into an argument over that.

It's only a Hyundai Accident, just do the owner a favour and have it towed and burnted out.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,554 ✭✭✭Pat Mustard

Ring the corpo and get him towed away. That Accent is illegally parked.

Put a For Sale sign on it first and then ring the Corporation. Never to be seen again.

You've tons of room to get out.

If you hadn't wasted so much money on that stupid looking spoiler you might have been able to afford a car with a decent turning circle.

    It's an Evo mate...

they come with that spoiler as standard.

Let the air out of all four tyres of anyone who parks there, should sort it out for ya:D

I hate to say this, but this is one instance where a clamaper is needed.

Now I must wash my mouth out.

    :)

Its all good saying stuff like that mate. but in fairness its not going to help. at all. if anything it will provoke a retaliation.

some people have already suggested the following
    burn it
    key it
    have it towed
    let the tires down
    pour milk all over it
put a for sale sign on it.

    etc etc

But I'm not like that. that's someones car, and I have a great respect for other peoples property.

What if they had to rush home in the event of an emergency? sick child? or relative in an accident? and needed to get to the hospital straight away only to find someone has let down the tires on their car.

I just wish they wouldn't park there (partially blocking the drive). My mother celotaped a note to the window kindly asking not to block the driveway.

    that should do it :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭cashmni1

Get a sign made for the wall saying that cars will be towed or clamped if blocking a driveway.
That should stop them. I agree with what you say about retaliation. They know where you live after all.

I have checked up on this in the past.

    It's not allowed.
Nor are you allowed to leave something like a wheelie bin on the road to stop people parking there.

    its a serious pain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,863 ✭✭✭Beta Ray Bill

well it would be fairly obvious. more to the point how would I know it would be them that keyed my car in retaliation?

Get a couple of traffic cones and put them there leaving a space for your driveway.

You would get a tractor out there, don't see a problem at all.

I think the OP can get the car out but the problem is that the road is narrow, has cars parked on both sides and his car has limited steering lock (all evo's do). With the problem parkers car there he can't (easily) get the arc to make it out of the driveway.

Im with the OP here, having people constantly park in a place that makes it difficult to get out of your own driveway is a complete pain and very inconsiderate.

As for solutions I reakon a couple of traffic cones, as said, would be the best solution.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,158 ✭✭✭✭Berty

    Clampers then so.
Even so, it's rare we should ever want/need them.

Seriously, Just leve a note on the windscreen telling them not to block your driveway in future.

erm no, i didn't even notice the typo, i wasn't picking on that.

the guy can't get out of his driveway, what use is clamping the car to the spot going to solve it?

Apologies, my point was more in line with a sign on the wall as a deterant. If there was a threat of a car being clamped for blocking a driveway, well maybe it would stop bad parking. - Hence a need for clampers. I didn't really put that much thought into the original post, which indicated that the car be clamped, which of course would be ironic. :)

I've experienced similar inconsiderate parking where I live and I just reverse in to my driveway and that way, I'm just driving straight out on to the road, could be difficult in your situation if you need to turn left though. Saves engine wear and the possibility of damage to my car. It would be lovely to have a loan of Mr. T's tank and flatten a couple of these assholes. Parking on foothpaths is a pet hate of mine too, kids walking to school, parents with prams are forced on to the road.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 619 ✭✭✭WHITE_P

For what is worth, I'd raise it with the local TD's, to try and get to corp. / council to see what can be done to put a stop to this. If people are parking there in order to get the train, then pressure needs to be applied to Irish Rail to provide proper parking facilities.

Council's solution would probably be to paint double yellow lines rather than put up "don't block driveways" signs. From frying pan to fire.

Even if the OP leaves a note or "accidentally" removes the offender's rear bumper during the manoeuvre out, I don't think that'll solve the problem - the Hyundai driver may never come back, but you can be sure some other eejit will rather than pay Irish Rail for parking.

Grahambo, is the Merc E-Class belonging to anyone you know? If that's a neighbour's car you could ask them to park further forward and effectively take up two spaces.

Yes is belongs to my neighbor on the left.
the rarely leave it there though, It was actually only put there for a about 30 min and that's when the other guy must have parked is accent their.

we've talked to the council/local TD about this. they are not interested. apparently there is nothing they can do. I suppose its bad, but I'm thankful its not as bad as things were when Howth Junction was being renovated... total disaster.

Just have to :D and bare it I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Ferris

Just leave a traffic cone at the corner where the path dips for the entrance to your driveway. Nobody will bother getting out of their car to move it.

You could also get a decent drill and bolt the cone down with floorbolts, this would stop the cone being robbed/thrown on your car/etc. The council won't care btw.

Because the car he drives has a short turning circle, there is a car parked across the road from his garden and the tool is blocking an enterance. Does not matter if he casn get out or not, his driveway is obstructed by another car, against the ROTR.

To be quite honest if its not blocking me I wouldnt give a toss, and it really doesnt look like hes blocked in, if he wanted to drift that Lancer out it might be a problem but otherwise no.

Forget for a minute that he has a lancer, what if drives a mini bus or has a jeep with a trailer, he still would not be able to get out. 2 cars are causeing an obstruction, one is actually blocking the driveway.

What are you talking about minibuses for?

It's tight but he can get out as far as I can see, the car on the other side of the road doesn't even come into the equation. That car is parked up on the curb leaving even more space.

oh god, so much ignorance in one post.

anyway, OP, Throw up some cones there in the future. Usually a detterent unless they decide to just shove them out of the way, which they may do.

Some of the replies here astound me. How can you dismiss that kind of parking. It's a total joke. OK, technically the car may be driven (with a few extra turns) around the offending 'obstacle', but this would seriously annoy me. It just shows a lack of consideration. If you cannot fit your car into a spot without obstructing an entrance, then don't park it there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,009 ✭✭✭OldmanMondeo

Beacuse it is as revelant as to him driving a Lancer, it dones't matter a f***. He is obstructed by a tool's poor parking.

He's obstructed, but he's not blocked in.

If he were driving a minibus, he would be blocked in.

See the flaw in your comparison?

this is not always the case.
there is often a 7 series parked there and he does drive up on the Kerb. If he had been there today I would have had a real trouble getting out.

I also accept the point from OldmanMondeo. I could have had a Van in which case getting out would have been even more difficult. (thankfully I don't have one though :) ) But the guy that parked there obviously could not have cared less whether I had one or not.

    Good point.

They said "we don't deal with that, you'll have to contact Dublin corpo"
that wasn't today now that was a response we got about a month ago.

My mam rang today and I dunno what they said to her. but i'm sure it was along the same lines

Park something nice and tight behind him so he can't move without calling into the house. Then you can have a chat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Leave a friendly but firm note on the windscreen
If it gets ignored call around to the house for a chat

If that gets ignored, start this thread in After Hours for ideas on revenge

I would not go with the cones and wheelie bin option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭selephonic

Or you could start parking in that spot yourself.
