I'll be making sure to turn on the TV, PC, laptop charger, mobile phone charger and all the lights in the house in support of this.

It doesn't say what time to leave them off

I for one will buck the trend and turn them off.

When do you go to work???
U usually leave your car running for 6-8 hours every night?

Bit late to start going green...

What's the bet Boards will have a new record number of people logging in on that date as everyone tries to find out if everyone else has turned off their electrical appliances?

I turned off all of my lights in support but had to burn a mountain of tyres in my garden so that I could see what I was doing.

Are people meant to walk around in the dark for an hour then? That's very dangerous! Climate activists must be seriously running out of ideas.

I'd really love to know where they got that estimated figure of 1 billion. Surely they didn't just add up the population of every participating city because that would be very misleading. Also you do realise that earth hour probably doesn't make any difference to carbon emmissions. Everyone in the country could stop using electricity in that hour but that wouldn't make a difference if the power plants don't wind down their electical output. Even if the power plants knew there would be much less demand for electricity between 8 and 9 on a certain day, by the time they have wound down the output they'd probably have to wind it back up again as 9 would be soon approaching so they probably wouldn't bother.

It's a nice idea that probably doesn't work very well when put into practice and the effort used creating awareness would probably be better used elsewhere.

I'm not saying i'm anti-energy aware, but the whole 'let's do it together for one hour' thing to raise awareness is pretty stupid.

It's just common sense to turn things off after using them. A big collective group hug isn't gonna make a difference imo.

Noone is saying walk around in the dark for an hour, thats just stupid....I don't know if you've ever heard of candles-you light them with a match r lighter and they provide light but aren't run on electricity!!! Also noone is asking anyone to risk safety as is why street lights aren't turned off!!

And the electrity companies are also taking part in running EH so they may wind down the electricity for the hour and even if they dont its better the lights off than on!! You cant argue that light pollution will be reduced for an hour. so the stars and sky can be seen better!!!

Guys this is an issue that the whole world is uniting on...that never happens!! Why look for faults and argue it??thats so typical Irish, if youd dont wanna turn off yur lights then dont but that just makes you petty and even worse if you run around turning on electricity for it! And no EH alone wont halt climate change but it may change a lot of peoples attitudes and it'll show the world that just because yu feel like you're just one person that together we can stop climate change when we wrok together and if people stop fighting it....hint hint!!

    I like the idea.

For one i personally like candle light so i dont mind. Its only an hour, I dont see why everyone is up in arms over it (and yes i do know its AH) but still....
Read a book, watch the stars (if there happens to be any seen on March 28th) go for a walk, see if anyone else is actually participating! Or just enjoy some quiet time..Talk to your housemates,or your OH or crack open some wine, have some tea. Whatever! Seriously its only 60 minutes!

    :)

During the WC qualifier against Bulgaria? My lights will be off but I'm pretty sure the pub I'm in will be blazing.

****ing 'tards. "Vote Earth" on the day everybody's watching the world's most popular sport? That's what I hate about environmentalists - most of them have the common sense of a tapeworm....

You haven't met my housemates....I'm normally pretty good about turning stuff off (what with being poor as fcuk) but I'm not going to go along with this, it's pointless middle class hippy shite.
