Most any specialist beer off licence (Redmond's, Drink Store, McHugh's) or pub (Bull & Castle, Porterhouse) will have it.

Great stuff. I might just have to make a luas pitstop at Ranelagh on my way home this evening. I see Tescos now have Brooklyn Lager in stock aswell. Happy days.

You should also try Goose Island IPA, if you see it. If you like SNPA you will love Goose Island.

Or Sierra Nevada IPA, for that matter. Or Meantime Pale Ale. Or Speakeasy Prohibition.

    Hoppy goodness abounds!

Yeh i tried a couple of bottles of Goose Island in Philadelphia over Xmas. Its lovely stuff aswell. Some of the American IPA's are beauts!! I especially liked Harpoon IPA!!! Probably no hope of finding that here though.

Harpoon was definitely on sale here last year. Not seen it in a while, though.

Amazing taste off of this, I always thought it was artificially flavoured in some way.

I know McHughes in Kilbarrack (& probably Artane by default) have it as I saw it there last week.

Might get a couple of bottles or maybe a selection for later

:D That's what you get when the industry is dominated by lowest-common-denominator beers: they've done their best to convince us that beer shouldn't really taste of anything and that proper beer flavours are therefore to be treated with suspicion.

I don't know what the proper wording is.. but there's a spicy 'floweryness' on your palate and throat you'd normally associate with maybe a (sweet) white wine.

Unfortunately, one or two Eurospar on the southside of Dublin no longer stock this.

That is nice. Tried one the other night - terrible looking bottle, imo, but great beer. Thing is, I still bought the beer despite its appearance!

yea I noticed them in Abbots only recently haven't gotten around to it yet as they've been stocking Brew Dog Hardcore IPA, Goose Island IPA, Sierra Nevade, Anchor Steem but more importantly big bottles of HOUBLON CHOUFFE Dobbelen IPA Tripel - that's a mouthful to say and to drink.

Mmmm had a few bottles of that myself.
    Fantastic.
I reckon Hommelbier has created a whole new style - Belgian IPA.
    I do love a Hommel

Picked up a 6 pack of Goose Island IPA there, and 1 Sierra Nevada Summerfest to try. They said they havent been able to get their hands on SNPA in few weeks. Quality selection of beers in Redmonds!!!

Yeh, I made the mistake of having the Summerfest after the 6 Goose Head. It wouldnt be a Pilsner Id return to I don't think. I think it was the Honkers Ale I had in Philly cos this Goose Island is differant. Tis a very very nice drop.

It's actually an ale rather than a lager, but I know what you mean.

Honkers is an attempt to recreate an English style of ale, something the Americans don't seem to be very good at. It's way too fizzy, for a start. They're much better at big hoppy beers like the IPA.

  • Registered Users Posts: 251 ✭✭Anoeta

Yeh I seem to remember a bigger head on the Honkers. The Goose Island IPA is much nicer, your right.
Im suprised the Summerfest is regarded an ale and not a pils. Reminds me a lot of the czech styles.

Do you mean Goose Island Summertime? If so its a Kölsch, a hybris beer make with ale yeast but fermented like a lager. Also they tend to use similar hops to pils so that might be when you though the similarity.

But if its Summerfest it is a pilsner-style lager so say Sierra Nevada?

Sounds interesting. Are there many beers out there in that style?

Gaffel Kölsch and Früh are two Kölsch-style beers available in Ireland. Redmonds would have them, I'd say.

Gaffel's currently on special offer in the Bull & Castle for €5 a bottle.

And for the reverse, there's Anchor Steam Beer: a lager yeast fermented at ale temperatures.
