Just wondering what are the best car chases you have seen in a movie

Stick up some clips if you have them.

One i loved in a not so great Sequel (but not terrible) is this

    Second clip is the best

Too young to remember Bullitt and Popeye Doyle, so.....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The ones in Ronin for me (lol at DeNiros face: "FUUUUUUUU-!" :D ) followed by the one at the end of Bourne Supremecy.

    Has to be Duel.

Most of the film is made up of a chase. The truck is so menacing!

    One of my favourite films.

I know all the purists who predictably offer Ronin and Bullitt every single time this question is raised probably won't agree but I'm gonna nominate the truck chase near the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

One not mentioned from a film that some probably don't even remember the car chase in it, is Basic Instinct. Great camera angle add to it immensely

    Totally agree

followed by my second fave. The bond Lotus esprit motorbike ,helicopter, car submarine chase!

Bullit is obviously the best but the car chase from The French Connection is a close second.

I think most people know the obvious ones by now. But the chase in To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) is on a par with any of the well-known 'car scraps'. Bloody good film, overall, too. Directed by William (The French Connection) Friedkin, to boot.

Bad Boys 2 is my favourite.
It ends with a speed boat exploding
Who knew Michael Bay was a surrealist director?

Pah you kids know nothing - a chase should be French or Italian and feature as many hazards as can be dreamt up by the Second Unit.

The Master Touch - its full of continuity errors but so what? :) Wait for the moment at about 4 min 10 seconds.

Whats Up Doc - comedy capers up and down the hills of San Fransico

Can't find a decent clip but "The Blues Brothers" (original) had a great chase scene. Up there with Bullitt and The French Connection.

Always love it in a car chase when they throw in the token police cars for no other reason but to have them smashed up.:D

Apparently they destroyed 76 cars in the movie, A guinness world record.

    Another apparent record is

"the cast and crew of 'The Blues Brothers' movie set a new world record for per-capita consumption of controlled substances during the filming of a major motion picture"

and John Belushi lost about 1000 pairs of sunglasses during the making of the film. He used to lose them between scenes and so earned the nickname "The Black Hole"

Only one mention for blues brothers? That film STILL holds the record for most cars destroyed in a car chace

"Its 106 miles to chicargo, A full tank of gas, smokes, its dark and were wearing sun glases"

    Absoutly amazing movie

Gone in 60 seconds the original 70s movie. I remember seeing this as a kid.

The end car chase has to be the longest that has ever been put in a movie. Love how he gets away in the end. Other than the chase its a terrible movie with terrible acting

Most of the greats have already been mentioned. I'd also add 'The Driver' (1978) to the list. Stands alongside Vanishing Point as the great existential car-chase film. It's book-ended by 2 fantastic chase scenes:

Also this scene which will be familiar to anyone whoever played the original 'Driver' game on playstation:

Youtube definitely doesn't do these scenes justice though!

    Philistine.

One of my faves not yet mentioned: the final chase in Taxi. The original French film, that is, not the Hollywood remake.

I know. I hope this thread continues. There's already a few movies I haven't seen that I'll be checking out. Mainly the old European ones.
There was some great stuff in an old 70's horror movie which is very like Jaws but with a demon car instead.
    The Car.

    Beeeep beep beep beeeeeep :D

+1 for The Blues Brother and Ronin.

Ill throw the wildly entertaining Death Race 2000 in the mix too. The original starring Sly Stallone and David Carradine. The whole film is one big car chase and somehow Roger Corman still managed to squeeze a durty love scene in there!

I love the car chase with the mini in "The Bourne Identity".

How did we forget this: the chase in The Dark Knight -- where The Joker tries to kill Dent from a truck, using a machine gun/rocket launcher -- culminating in Batman 'tripping the truck up' with wire. Bloody marvelous chase, a classic already IMHO.

One thing always bothered me about that chase, Joker thinks Harvey Dent is Batman in the truck and tries to kill him, but then the real Batman shows up and he's still trying to kill Dent... and not Batman in the Batmobile, am I wrong? :p

Also the cheesy lines of the truck cop, but still an awesome scene.

There's a couple of lines of dialogue in the script which were cut from the film when the Batmobile shows up one of the Joker's goons says something like 'do you think that's him?' and the Joker says 'It could be anyone driving that thing'.

Anyway, does the bike chase scene in Akira count as a car chase? I think it was an influence on the Dark Knight.

Also like the chase in Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit when the giant bunny is dragging their van around the streets and finally underground - brilliant.
