What do you like about Maynooth? Not just the Uni, but the town and living/commuting here in general?

I still really like the South Campus, last week it looked fantastic covered in snow. I'm also loving my timetable this semester.

Monday nights in the SU can still be a laugh, unless last Monday was just pure drunkeness, anyone notice that two people can dance away on their own on the 'dancefloor', look like complete tools and nobody seems to notice? :p

Ooh, I like the swimming pool. Nice and warm, never really too packed, and free of course.

And the coffee from Londis is really growing on me, although I was trying to give up coffee... I like chilling in the coffee mill, like having a job so close to college and college being so close to home.

Before any of you slate me for this, I'm just trying to bring the tone up a little.

I totally agree, the coffee mill does rule, and the south campus does look class covered in snow, *cue snowball fights outside composition class* hehe
I love the way most of my lecturers, actually probably all of them are really nice and friendly. Same goes for most of my class mates also.

I like some of my lecturers, especially LBB and Adrian Scahill. Wonderful people.

I adore the South Campus. Always felt really at home in Logic House.

I like having a Tesco, Aldi and Dunnes minutes from my house.

I love loving in Moyglare Abbey. My house is lovely, the area is lovely, the kids are always up for a snowball/grass fight.

I love how this small town has nearly everything - a library with free internet, a train station, a shopping centre, a student bar, an oldie pub, and O'Neills catering. It's like a convenience town or something. And with it so close to Dublin, you wouldn't go mad living here. Your options for a night out are endless.

I love how friendly and open the students are. I love the open plan layout of the place, it really is such a pretty college.

Totally living here after my degree.

Well I'm gone a couple of years from college now but I loved Maynooth and lived there for a good while after college finished. Still miss it now, would have probably stayed on if I hadn't moved in with the boyfriend in Dublin. Made some great life long friends, had lovely lecturers, big fan of Bradys and the staff (I have to say I even liked the Roost too!), Carton House is lovely for walks, it's a friendly place to live, the town itself has great amenities - when you think it's only a small town really and has all the big named supermarkets. Nice gym in the Glenroyal which as far as gyms go is really reasonable, especially the student rate if the college gym isn't up to your standard. I'm living in a well to do North Dublin town now and we don't have a quarter of the things Maynooth does. In NUI Maynooth you're a person, in other larger colleges you're often just a number. South Campus is such a beautiful campus. I love the history there. I think a lot of the people giving out about it will miss it when they're gone.

Sadly I too have moved on after my college days but still visit.

    Lovely things=

The south campus: its pretty, has the music department (& pianos), has secluded spots here & there for this & that, has post office, has big great chapel, has graduation ceremonies

Twist: great flows of tea, v. tasty food, friendly people, if its full you don't have to wait too long for a table/ they match you up with another set of people to share one and you end up meeting mad people.

The size of the place: you'll always meet people you know around the place, but can still avoid the odd someone if necessary. There's also a good mix of students and natives.

Location: just close enough to Dublin and far enough away from Dublin

    Memories! :)

    The Twist!

I only discovered this recently, a wonderful little place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,195 ✭✭✭✭Michellenman

The Twist I just heard about this place today, they do a lovely fry apparently.

Where abouts is it? All I got was that it's a little side street near Bradys...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

I always walk past it by accident. Stay on the same side of the road as Centra, and it's one of the turns off left. Possibly the second turn after Centra.

I love the Mill Cafe...sooo cosy!! The college coudnt possibly offer more facilities!! There is every club imaginable, there are so many computers and the lecturers go out of their way to help you. Lovely place. I really feel like the college listens to students and attempts to help everyone as much as they can.

Oh it's class. I hate The Rye PACR, I feel like I'm in an exam when I'm there.
It's nice to have somewhere quiet to go that you DON'T have to be doing academic work to stay.

    +1

It's actually a very releaxing place. Found the other day when I was there for an hour that I was very relaxed leaving it.

Everybody is in on top of each other in Rye hall.

I thought they were going to abandon the old PACR in the callan building but I'm happy they didn't/

I love the fact that you see so many people you know every day (although that can be a disadvantage too :o) and that even in Second Year you can still start up friendships with randomers and chat to people you don't know for the craic... I like when I get a couch in the SU at lunchtime too and some of the roides that do come through the SU... rawr...

Most of the lecturers in both my departments are fantastic aswell and couldn't do more to help you if you ask...

Oh I love River Apts too... Boyf lives there and the variety of people walking past his kitchen window make for great observation... tis like birdwatching...

The Mega Breakfast lives up to its name and sets you up for a couple of days. It's a monster.

Twist is on Fagan's Lane which is one of those lanes along where AIB and O'Neill's are. Trying to get my cognitive map in order here but I'm fairly certain it's the one facing Bank of Ireland.

Damn undergrads ruin the rest of the year :pac:

I like the atmosphere here, it's very relaxed compared to TCD where I did my undergrad. When I lived in Maynooth I used to enjoy Brady's and the Roost. Avenue (the restaurant on the Tesco end of Main St.) is great too.

And the ducks on the canal are awesome. I miss them now that I drive.

That bird with the fluffy feet stalking smokers outside JH last week was quite impressive ;)

Predictably I also love South Campus in the snow. Got some lovely pics of it like that in 2007. Are the white benches really gone? For shame if they are. Have many fond memories of sitting there yapping to friends (significantly including the very last day of the undergrad.)

    Hahaha the willow grouse! \o/

There's still white benches. Ice-cream week April 2007. Fond memories of good weather those few weeks

I like that I've got my own computer with administrator priviledges. That's great about Maynooth.

I'm all for people trying to be intelligent. Surely it'd be worse if we were all typing alcohol-fuelled garbaggio?

The best thing about maynooth has to be walking around the old campus when the sun is shinning. Or that tree in front of pugeon last autumn.

I love the south campus church clock. Honestly, it has helped me in so many ways without even realisng it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

The church clock has no bells, it's a stereo recording. We were going to replace the 'ding dong' tune with the Muslim call to prayer, before remembering that we're in our final year and don't want to get expelled.

Maybe for April Fool's though :)

Hmm, I'm not. I'd take a night in the station for that.
