I know your probally sick of these threads but had a look and there was nothing that i could releate to.

So im 5 10 and am about 10 stone. Eat resonably well. Play hurling and soccer so have resonable fitness and was hoping to build some more upper body strength for hurling.

With the reccesion and all that and me having no money gym membership isnt really an option.

Currently at home im just doing pushups, tricep dips(about 50 each) and the plank at the end. Maybe 3 times a week.
Would never really be pushing myself that hard but want to start doing it properly.

Does anyone have advice on excercises or a routine that i could do at home that would focus on my abs and upperbody.

Also have weights at home but wouldnt mind investing in some if knew they would help.

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks

What kind of weights do you have?
    Dumbbells? Barbells? Kettle Bells?

50 reps wont increase your strength ability much.
You need to make the exercises harder. Put a bag of heavy book on your back for push ups.
do the plank with one leg lifted in the air, foot not higher then hip height.
with dips, place your feet on a chair also, depending on how you are doing them.

If you invest in a barbell you can do a
barbell row, shoulder press, deadlift, shrug, chest press, barbell roll out, etc.

depnds on your stength level how many you do really.

to build strengh you do 2 - 6 reps per set, so it would be heavy heavy weights.

with push ups tat pro wont happen, but if you make it so you struggle to do 10, that would be useful. I mean struggle, dont just do 10 when you can do 20 you know.

    do 3 to 4 sets.

you can also do push ups on the dumbbells, i.e instead of hands on the ground you place them on the dumbbells with your palms facing each other. this make it harder to stabilise yourself.

    you could also try T-pushups:

well with dumbbells you can work anything.

it all depends on how heavy they are if you wanna build stength.
but you can easily do the following with dumbbells

    squats/lunges
    chest press/dumbbell pushup
    bent over row
    shoulder press
    tricep extension
    hammer curl

    3 to 4 sets each.
aiming for max 10 reps in each set, again this depends on the weight in the dumbbells.

    http://www.irish-lifting.com/ has barbells.

    argos has them too.
