Try oat, rice, almond, soy etc milk to see which you like most. Haven't seen almond for sale. Missus makes oat milk all the time and it's easy, maybe making your own almond milk would be too.

Yea bitter almonds is what she said. Anyone tried to make any Nut Milks, I hear Brazil Nuts are meant to be great because you don't have to let them germinate like almonds.

I've tried it and while it's nice in its own way its not really a good alternative to milk if you're looking for something to put in your tea etc. There's a sweetended one and a none sweetened one but even the non sweetened is quite sweet which I really disliked.
Does anyone know of a milk substitute other than soya that's not sweet?
Rice milk seems to be loaded with sugar too.

Can't remember exactly but apparently we are the only mammals that continue to drink milk even after we've been weaned and some peoples bodies find it really hard to digest, Dairy is quite fatty and all that as well so too much wouldn't be good.

I don't know about this area but Dunnes elsewhere have Alpro almond milk for €1.99 recently.

It is only 2% almonds though. Ingredients:
Water, Sugar, Almond (2%), Tri-calcium phosphate, Sea salt, Stabilisers (Locust Bean gum, Gellan gum), Emulsifier (Sunflower lecithin), Vitamins (Riboflavin (B2), B12, E, D2)
    From here: http://www.alpro.com/uk/almond

As with everything, there's good quality and bad quality. You can get almond milk that's organic and has no sugar etc added.

If you're going to be a heavy milk user you might be better off investing in a high speed blender. It's easy to make any type of milk (or mylk as some people like to call it!). Throw a handful of nuts in, 2 cups of water, put it on high for 50 seconds and there you have your milk. I like to add a few dates and a pinch of salt, but I like my sweet taste :) You'd probably get 4/5 litres home made from a 250gm pack of almonds which will cost you about €5 for organic.

Any decent health shop will probably sell nut milk. There's plenty of alternatives to dairy, hazelnut, almond, quinoa, hemp, rice, oat, soya etc.

That is actually a great idea!! Thanks for the tip!!

No problem, just be aware that the high speed blenders capable of doing this properly are expensive: http://www.ukjuicers.com/blendtec-total-blender-black

They are absolutely brilliant and completely versatile though. If you like your milk smooth you can get a nut bag too, I don't bother, pain in the ass to clean and not necessary really either :)

There's something mad in that alpro almond milk, bought it once and had an allergic reaction to something, I always buy Coconut milk now.

Yes Tesco have Alpro Almond Milk, they also have Hazelnut! It´s in the UHT milk section, not the fridge.

    E1.99 , if I remember correctly....

Yeah Tesco do an Almond Milk in a carton in the normal milk fridge usually sitting above the crates of regualr milk.

There's a fridged version of the alpro and a UHT version.
