Definately. We are not very unique anymore. We have lost a LOT of our culture over the past century. The world is shrinking and there's not too much we can do about it :)

I really feel that the current irish population should go back to the way it used to be. Go back to year 0 lets say. Back when being Irish meant something!

Was out at a hotel for lunch today, there was confirmations on in the function room. As i sat there watch these cheeky little, 100% TV influenced, brats running mad i worried what the country will be like in 10-20years.
Ireland's heritage is small close nit hard working communities, that's gone anyway.

Yeah it has, people are forgetting their heritage because of the fact that Ireland is now richer then it was 20 years ago, so people are more greedy and would sell their nationality for 100,000 euros these days. nobody cares about Irish value nowadays, there have been countless arguments on whether or not Ireland should preserve the Irish Language simply because people are too lazy to actually listen and learn it(I myself am guilty of not listening in irish class). The only thing we still hold accountable for in terms of heritage is Hurling and GAA

I don't like some of the people who have claimed our heritage for themselves, but despite that, I'm proud of Irish heritage.

Being serious here, I think that the "old" Ireland is pretty much gone. Just like what was considered the "old" Ireland before that. Sure we wont have the dancing at the crossroads or the slugging Guinness by the fireplaces stuff but that was new once too. We also wont have the mad gossiping and religious forcing of producing a child a year anymore which can only be a good thing.

We're developing an entirely new culture in my opinion and to be honest we haven't dumbed down as much as people say. There are posters here like javaboy, CuLT, AlmightyCushion et al who are in their early 20s and grew up with the internet. They turned out okay, you know? Also, Dev and the gang were pretty young when they developed this site, which is more Irish to me than any Quiet Man calender or whatever.

OP, I'm not entirely sure what happening but I think we'll be okay. As a nation we stood up to several hundred years of oppression and held out with our heritage and culture intact. If we lose what's left of it due to our own shifting whims, then that's fine. It's ours to lose and we've got plenty of folk ready to develop something new.*

Maybe not, Wikipedia claims there was not record of the man supposed to be his father so he could've just been a bastard.
