Measuring Body Fat

    Hi folks,

I'm trying to lose some weight while gaining muscle. I'm doing this by eating better, lifting weights (I'm doing the program from Starting Strength) and doing some cardio.

So far I reckon things are going ok - I'm not expecting overnight miracles but it is nice to be able to measure progress. I can see that I'm dropping weight gradually on a normal weighing scales and presume I'm increasing muscle since I'm progressively able to lift heavier weights.

I'd like to be able to measure my body fat - firstly to get a good idea of what it is and secondly to see it drop! I have an Accufitness calipers I bought online but I'm not at all sure if I'm using it right and find it hard to get consistant readings.

How do other posters measure body fat? Are devices like this or this any use? Is there a clinic or gym that do accurate readings where I could go now and in a few months? Any help appriciated!

I use the second one (the handheld one), it may not be 100% accurate but i find doing it 3 times and getting the average gives me a fair idea. I'm doing the same thing as you, started in August and have since gained 1KG and lost 3.4% BF. And it does feel good when you look over your past results :D
